    Bus driver fired over “Lolita Line” outfit

    This week on Off the Record, a male school bus driver was fired after wearing a Japanese-style schoolgirl outfit on the job with a sign calling his bus route the “Lolita Line.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford called for Canada to adopt a U.S.-style “castle law” and slammed the federal bail system after an attempted carjacking at his home. Conservative MP Andrew Lawton exposed the Liberal government for adjourning the justice committee in under 30 minutes without discussing crime or bail reform. And the Canadian Taxpayers Federation revealed Calgary spent $65,000 on an art project that lets people phone the Bow River, even though the number doesn’t work.     Ford gushes over Carney as pipeline plans crumble

    This week on Off The Record, Ontario Premier Doug Ford  praised Prime Minister Mark Carney, calling him "Santa Claus" after the First Ministers’ meeting. B.C. Premier David Eby later threw cold water on Alberta’s hopes for a pipeline through B.C., shattering the consensus among premiers only a day later. Ford’s praise came despite rising U.S. tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel, which are set to hammer Ontario manufacturers. Ford’s government also faces a $14.7-billion deficit, raising questions about his fiscal credibility as a self-described conservative. In Ottawa, Carney’s government suffered its first defeat as Parliament passed a Conservative motion demanding a spring budget. The non-binding motion underscores growing opposition to Carney’s plan to add $225 billion to the federal debt over four years — even more than Trudeau was set to spend. Meanwhile, Air Canada faced backlash over promoting its first all-LGBTQ flight. The airline had to disable comments on its post after widespread criticism that identity politics are being prioritized over basic service and safety. Finally, a True North exclusive revealed that an Ontario school board trained staff that the term “family” is “harmful” and “racist.” The training sparked outrage over the spread of divisive critical race theory in Canadian schools.     Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, held a press conference at a steel mill awkwardly donning a hard hat—without any workers present. He also took no questions from reporters, quickly leaving the scene. It's a common occurrence for Carney, who has not allowed independent media at his events, with True North being barred from several. Meanwhile, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre held a press conference where he scrutinized Carney’s record, highlighting past controversies and misleading statements. Poilievre accused Carney of "selling out Canada." Amid the ongoing tariff dispute, provincial premiers have taken the lead in the absence of the federal government. Ontario Premier Doug Ford initially clashed with U.S. President Donald Trump over electricity tariffs but later backed down. At UBC Okanagan, the student union denied the formation of a Conservative club, despite allowing a Liberal Party of Canada club to exist. The union cited concerns that Conservative views on the Black and LGBTQ communities made students feel "excluded or unwelcome" but failed to provide specific examples.     The Tariff War Begins

    Retaliatory tariffs imposed by Canada on the U.S. might cause more economic damage to Canadians than Americans. The trade war has also evolved into a war of words as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called U.S. President Donald Trump’s tactics a “very dumb thing to do.” The Liberal Party of Canada’s leadership election will end on Sunday Mar. 9 and Mark Carney is the expected winner. His victory will also make him the next prime minister of Canada. And the Trudeau carbon tax will be hiked by 20 per cent on Apr. 1. Backbench MPs will also get around a $6,000 raise and the prime minister will get an approximately $16,000 raise on Apr. 1 as well. It seems this year the only April fools will be Canadians taxpayers footing the bill.
