Namibia’s Visa Shift: A New African Power Play?

What is Namibia famous for? Visa? I doubt it.  So what happens when this African nation changes the game with its global visa policies? Well, your guess is as good as mine. Namibia is proceeding with its decision to implement a new visa policy that has sparked global interest. Namibia will now require visas for citizens of countries that do not offer visa-free access to Namibians. Laudable.  Namibia is located in southern Africa. It recently elected its first female president, HE Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Not the biggest country on the continent, but its quiet and bold visa policy shift speaks volumes. Namibia just sent a powerful message to the world: No more one-sided visa policies. The move raises questions about its potential economic and political impact even when it seems like a strategic move and a risky gamble move at the same time.  Why should African nations keep their doors open when the world keeps theirs shut? In this episode of Olusegun Musing, we dive into Namibia’s bold new visa policy, demanding reciprocity from countries that restrict Namibian travelers. What does this mean for Africa’s place in global diplomacy? Could this spark a continent-wide movement for visa fairness? Listen to me musing out loud.
