Episode 72: When the American Dream Breaks

On this episode of the One Broken Life Podcast, John Stroup sits down with Betty Blackwell for a raw conversation about brokenness, disappointment, and her love for God. Betty loved Jesus from a young age, but growing up without her father around and falling in with the wrong crowd led her to smoking, drinking, and pornography at just 11 years old. As a young adult, she chased the American dream and climbed the corporate ladder until losing her job brought it all crashing down. And then, life took another devastating turn. Her father, who was addicted to heroin, was murdered. Through her loss, God gave her a burden for people like her dad: broken people who need Jesus. Today, Betty serves as a missionary at Freeway Ministries Headquarters, where she gets to watch God transform broken lives, just as He transformed hers. Join us as Betty shares how God met her in the middle of her mess, disappointment, and brokenness.  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvb-NnMTgcAITfNM20pF2KQ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4F3b9TcG5BDSkfTK0UwCap Amazon: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/35e83628-c4da-4309-bd0d-2e03cd2a391d/one-broken-life Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/one-broken-life-real-people-real-discussion/id1569230320 Podbean: https://media3r.podbean.com Soundstripe License Code: ZSJCFVTHJUP4QQNC For more information: www.freeway-ministries.com Follow One Broken Life on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OneBrokenLifePodcast Follow Freeway Ministries on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/freewayministries ONE BROKEN LIFE is a production of Freeway Ministries in Springfield Missouri. Betty loved the Lord from a young age, but growing up fatherless and being exposed to pornography early on shaped parts of her story she never expected. She chased the American dream, wanted to climb the corporate ladder, but eventually became a missionary in New York City. Then the doors closed, she lost her job, and everything changed. Her father ended up dying addicted to heroin. Her plans fell apart. But God wasn’t finished. Episode 71: From the Braves to the Cross

On this episode of the One Broken Life Podcast, John Stroup sits down with Matt Price for an honest and encouraging conversation about how God rescues broken people. Matt's story includes what many would consider a successful life. He played baseball for the Atlanta Braves, went on to become a police officer in Atlanta, is the father of a daughter from his first marriage, and later adopted a son after marrying his wife, Missy. From the outside, it may have looked like everything was falling into place. But the truth is, sin reaches every one of us. No amount of success, accomplishment, or good reputation can satisfy the deepest need of the human heart. Like all of us, Matt found himself caught in a downward spiral of struggles that revealed his desperate need for a Savior. Join us as Matt shares how God pursued him in the middle of his brokenness, brought him to genuine salvation, and began transforming his life through the power of the Gospel. Episode 70: Five Times Down, One Time Up

On this episode of the One Broken Life Podcast, John sits down with Stephanie Deckard for a raw and deeply moving conversation about a life marked by hardship and the redemption she never saw coming. Stephanie's story begins in a broken home and winds through years of struggle, including five separate stints in prison. At her lowest, she found herself homeless in the dead of winter, sheltering in a makeshift hut with little more than survival on her mind. A dangerous and abusive relationship eventually pushed things to a breaking point, threatening her very life and bringing law enforcement to her door. But what happened next would change everything. In that moment of desperation, an officer on the scene did something unexpected. He shared the Gospel with Stephanie and prayed with her. It was a simple act that would become the turning point of her life. Tune in to hear how God met Stephanie in her darkest hour and set her on a journey of healing, restoration, and purpose. Transforming a life defined by pain and survival into a powerful testimony of hope. Episode 68: The Ripple Effect of Redemption

In this episode of One Broken Life, John Stroup sits down with Christina for a raw and personal conversation about life on the streets, addiction, and the power of God. Christina shares her story of growing up in a drug-filled environment, where chaos and brokenness were normal. Living only what she knew, she was pulled into addiction and eventually met her husband, Jacob. What started as a difficult path quickly spiraled, as John, Christina, and Jacob all found themselves caught in the same destructive lifestyle—running the streets together with no clear way out. But that’s not where the story ends. This episode highlights the incredible ripple effect of God’s redemption. What began with God getting ahold of one life—John’s—became a testimony that reached Jacob, and ultimately led to Christina. This is a story of grace, restoration, and the undeniable truth that God can change any life—and use it to reach others. Episode 67: A Good Home Isn't Enough

In this episode of One Broken Life, John Stroup sits down with Mason McCall for a real and honest conversation about how a life that started with a strong foundation can still take a hard turn. Mason shares how, despite coming from a good Christian home, he came to a hard truth, being raised around faith doesn’t mean you personally know Christ. Through a series of bad decisions, he found himself caught in addiction and deep brokenness, learning the hard way that faith can’t be inherited, it has to be your own. This episode is a powerful reminder that no background can prevent brokenness, and no brokenness is beyond redemption. It’s a story of grace, and the life-changing power of God to restore what once seemed lost. Episode 66: Cops and Criminals

Episode 66: Cops and Criminals  In this episode of One Broken Life, John Stroup sits down with Jake Miller, a police officer, for a real and honest conversation about the unseen weight law enforcement officers carry every day. Jake opens up about the hardships from his past, the pressure that comes with the badge, and the personal battles that don’t always show on the outside. He shares his raw story of father wounds he has carried for years and how, instead of letting that pain define him, he allowed it to shape him into a better father, a better cop, and a better man. This episode is a powerful picture of what it looks like when a cop and a criminal come together to share hope. It is about redemption, understanding both sides of the line, and proving that brokenness does not have to be the end of the story.   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvb-NnMTgcAITfNM20pF2KQ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4F3b9TcG5BDSkfTK0UwCap Amazon: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/35e83628-c4da-4309-bd0d-2e03cd2a391d/one-broken-life Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/one-broken-life-real-people-real-discussion/id1569230320 Podbean: https://media3r.podbean.com Soundstripe License Code: ZSJCFVTHJUP4QQNC For more information: www.freeway-ministries.com Follow One Broken Life on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OneBrokenLifePodcast Follow Freeway Ministries on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/freewayministries ONE BROKEN LIFE is a production of Freeway Ministries in Springfield Missouri.
