The Gospel of Mark: Resurrection Hope

Mark’s Gospel ends with an empty tomb and a question that still confronts us today: what will we do with the resurrection of Jesus? The women came expecting death but were met with life, reminding us how often we live as if hope is gone, unaware that everything has already changed. Jesus is not in the grave, and because He lives, hope is present. The resurrection is the foundation of our faith and the power for our lives now. Without it, we are still lost, but because of it, we are invited into new life. In His kindness, Jesus entrusts His mission to imperfect people, calling us to live with hope and to share that hope with others. God calls us not just to believe that Jesus is alive, but to go and tell others the hope we have in Him. Easter at OneLife: Born Again

Jesus’ resurrection is not just a past event to celebrate, but a present reality that still changes lives today. In John 3:1–17, Jesus shows Nicodemus that no amount of religion, morality, or spiritual effort can bring the life we truly need—something deeper has to happen within us. Being born again is entirely God’s work, not something we can achieve through church background, good behavior, baptism, or praying the right prayer. What we all long for is not self-improvement but true spiritual transformation, and that is exactly what the Spirit gives as He makes us alive. The good news of the gospel is that we do not climb our way to God; God comes to us in Jesus to do what we could never do for ourselves. This new life can’t be earned, only received. This is an invitation not to modify your life, but to be made new and to be fully transformed from the inside out. The Gospel of Mark: Restoration After Failure

Peter’s denial is closer to our story than we’d like to admit. The drift away from Jesus rarely happens all at once, but in subtle steps: pride in our own devotion, distance from His presence, and eventually compromise we never thought we were capable of. We promise faithfulness, yet find ourselves relying on our own strength, following at a distance, and blending into a world that pulls us further from Him. But failure is not the end of the story. Jesus meets our worst moments with unstoppable grace, pursues us with unchanging commitment, and restores what we thought was lost. He doesn’t wait for us to fix ourselves—He comes after us in our weakness, calls us out of shame, and invites us back into purpose. The question is not whether we’ve failed, but whether we’re willing to lay down our pride, come to Him in humility, and let Him restore what only He can. The Gospel of Mark: The Cost of Salvation

What if the greatest relief your soul could ever experience is knowing that your sin has been fully paid for and that the God you once offended now welcomes you as a friend? In Mark 14:43–65, Jesus is betrayed, falsely accused, mocked, and condemned, yet he stands silent before corrupt men; not because he is powerless, but because he is willingly submitting to the Father’s plan and drinking the cup of wrath that our sin deserved. The sham trial reveals that Jesus is far more than people realized–he is the Christ, the Son of Man, and the Judge of all. But it also exposes something about us: our sin is far worse than we tend to admit. Sin is not a small mistake but a shameful betrayal that leaves us far short of the glory we were made for. Yet in the middle of this injustice we see the beauty of salvation, because the One we condemned chose to bear our shame so we could be forgiven. The suffering of Jesus reveals both how costly our rescue truly was and how deep his love is for us. As we grow in the Christian life, we begin to see more clearly that we are more flawed than we ever wanted to admit, yet more loved by Jesus than we ever dared imagine. Because of him, our sin is paid for and the Father we once feared now welcomes us as a friend. The Gospel of Mark: Watch and Pray

As Jesus approaches the cross, the weight of what lies ahead presses heavily upon Him. In the garden of Gethsemane, we see Jesus turn to His Father in intimate prayer, calling Him “Abba”—a deeply personal expression of trust and relationship. Jesus asks if there is another way, yet ultimately submits fully to the Father’s will. Meanwhile, the disciples—exhausted from an intense and emotional week—struggle to stay awake. Three times Jesus finds them sleeping and urges them to “watch and pray” so that they will not fall into temptation. In this powerful moment, Jesus shows us both the necessity of prayer and the danger of spiritual complacency. When life grows heavy or our spirits grow weary, the temptation to become spiritually drowsy is real. Like the disciples, we must be reminded to stay alert. Through prayer and watchfulness, we remain anchored in the Father’s will and prepared for the temptations we face. The Gospel of Mark: Why the Blood of Jesus Matters

We are a people who sing about and celebrate the blood of Jesus—but why? Every human being stands guilty before a holy God. None of us escape sin. All have fallen short, and justice does not simply disappear. At Passover, judgment fell either on the lamb or on the firstborn son, but a substitute had to die. That night was always pointing forward. As Jesus shared the meal with His disciples, He was declaring that He is the true and better Passover Lamb. The sacrificial system could never fully remove sin. It was preparing the way for the only One uniquely qualified, fully God and fully man, to stand in our place. On the cross, Jesus absorbed the judgment we deserved and, through His blood, secured eternal redemption. He took our guilt and gave us His righteousness. Because of His blood, we are not merely forgiven, we are brought near. Covered and cleansed, we are welcomed into a relationship with the Father, no longer condemned, but adopted as sons and daughters. Every time we take communion, we remember that the way into God’s presence was opened at the cost of His blood, and that changes everything.
