The Gospel of Mark: Watch and Pray

As Jesus approaches the cross, the weight of what lies ahead presses heavily upon Him. In the garden of Gethsemane, we see Jesus turn to His Father in intimate prayer, calling Him “Abba”—a deeply personal expression of trust and relationship. Jesus asks if there is another way, yet ultimately submits fully to the Father’s will. Meanwhile, the disciples—exhausted from an intense and emotional week—struggle to stay awake. Three times Jesus finds them sleeping and urges them to “watch and pray” so that they will not fall into temptation. In this powerful moment, Jesus shows us both the necessity of prayer and the danger of spiritual complacency. When life grows heavy or our spirits grow weary, the temptation to become spiritually drowsy is real. Like the disciples, we must be reminded to stay alert. Through prayer and watchfulness, we remain anchored in the Father’s will and prepared for the temptations we face. The Gospel of Mark: Why the Blood of Jesus Matters

We are a people who sing about and celebrate the blood of Jesus—but why? Every human being stands guilty before a holy God. None of us escape sin. All have fallen short, and justice does not simply disappear. At Passover, judgment fell either on the lamb or on the firstborn son, but a substitute had to die. That night was always pointing forward. As Jesus shared the meal with His disciples, He was declaring that He is the true and better Passover Lamb. The sacrificial system could never fully remove sin. It was preparing the way for the only One uniquely qualified, fully God and fully man, to stand in our place. On the cross, Jesus absorbed the judgment we deserved and, through His blood, secured eternal redemption. He took our guilt and gave us His righteousness. Because of His blood, we are not merely forgiven, we are brought near. Covered and cleansed, we are welcomed into a relationship with the Father, no longer condemned, but adopted as sons and daughters. Every time we take communion, we remember that the way into God’s presence was opened at the cost of His blood, and that changes everything. The Gospel of Mark: Treasure Him

As the shadow of the cross draws near, two very different treasures are exposed in this passage. In the darkness, religious leaders and Judas calculate cost and control. In the light, Mary the sister of Martha, pours out what would have been nearly a year’s wages to anoint Jesus. Her extravagant offering wasn’t impulsive; it was deeply personal. She looked at her earthly wealth and decided that expressing her gratitude and joy for Jesus was worth more. The disciples saw waste. Jesus saw worship. They valued the activity of the kingdom, but she treasured the King Himself. And as Jesus received her gift, He revealed His own heart—He was walking toward burial, toward the cross, because His treasure was you. In the end, we all pour our lives out on something. The question is: what do you want to be remembered for? You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Endurance for the Gospel - Friends of OneLife with Kelly Monaghan

Endurance in the Christian life doesn’t happen by accident. It’s formed as we anchor ourselves to what matters most. If we drift from the gospel by adding to it, softening it, or moving beyond it, we lose our foundation. We are to hold the good news tightly and refuse to let anything replace it. But gospel clarity alone isn’t enough; we were never meant to walk alone. Scripture calls us sheep, not lone wolves. We need biblical community to help us endure, to strengthen us when we’re weak, and to help us lay down offense when relationships get hard. And underneath it all is a daily dependence on Jesus. We cannot sustain faithfulness in our own strength. Self-reliance eventually leads to fatigue, but remaining in the vine leads to life. As we keep going, we do so anchored in the gospel, committed to one another, and fully dependent on Christ who endured for us. Vision 2026: A People of His Presence

How will anyone know we are distinct if God’s presence doesn’t go with us? Would we really be satisfied with blessing, momentum, or even success if His presence were missing? From Moses to the early church, God’s people have been marked by the reality of God among them. But we also see through the ministry of Jesus that it’s possible to limit the presence of God. In Nazareth, Jesus was met with unbelief and cynicism which limited the miracles He was able to do. In contrast, Bethany welcomed, hosted and gave space for Jesus to dwell. God shows up where He is wanted. When skepticism and disappointments shape us, they quietly close us off to what God desires to do. But when we lay those things down and choose to say yes again, we become a people who refuse to take another step without Him. We long not for the appearance of success, but for the manifest presence of God in our midst.  You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Pursuing the Spirit - Hearing From God

God created us for relationship with Him, not one-way conversations where we do all the talking. He is a God who speaks! He guides, comforts, heals, and leads His people. We come to the Father not because of our effort, but because of His unfailing love. We are like sheep and we are to know the Shepherd's voice. God’s voice sounds like a loving Father, bringing comfort in sorrow, healing in brokenness, and hope when we fall short. He speaks in many ways, often into the ordinary rhythms of our lives, and His silence is not His absence. As a church, we want to move from simply believing God speaks to actively expecting Him to speak, making space to hear from Him and becoming a people truly led and filled by the Holy Spirit. Pursuing the Spirit - Grieving and Quenching

Are you satisfied with your current relationship with God, or do you want more of His presence and nearness? A.W. Tozer once said we have as much of God as we actually want, inviting us to examine how we engage with Him. The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, but God Himself—our Advocate, the Spirit of truth, with us and in us. Because He is personal, He can be grieved or quenched when we neglect relationship, rely on ourselves, resist His work, or confine Him to what feels comfortable. While this doesn’t remove us from Christ, it can dull our awareness of God’s joy, peace, love, and nearness. The invitation is to reflect honestly on where we may have poured water on the Spirit’s work instead of fanning it into flame.
