CHILD STARS: Too Famous Too Young

What happens when a kid becomes famous before they’re old enough to understand what fame actually costs? This week on OPINIONish, we’re talking about child stars, the ones who made it, the ones who struggled, and the ones Hollywood seemed to chew up and leave behind. From Macaulay Culkin, Daniel Radcliffe and Selena Gomez to Judy Garland, Dana Plato, Corey Haim and Bobby Driscoll, the stories are wildly different, but the pressure is often very much the same. Mitch, Travis and Matt get into fame, money, stage parents, addiction, growing up too fast, losing a normal childhood, and what happens when an entire industry spends years telling a kid they’re special... then suddenly stops calling. We also look at the success stories. Ron Howard. Kurt Russell. The Olsen twins. Sean Astin. Stars who somehow made the jump from child actor to adult success without completely falling apart. So is Hollywood better at protecting young performers today? Are parents the real safety net? And with kids now chasing fame through YouTube, TikTok and streaming, have we actually fixed the problem... or just moved it online? Tell us what you think in the comments. Subscribe to OPINIONish and join us every Wednesday for another conversation we probably have no business having. Starting Over: Reinvent Yourself at Any Age

What if the career everyone else thinks is perfect is the very thing you need to leave? After 18 years at WESH 2, Amy Sweezey walked away from the familiar, the steady paycheck and the identity that came with television to reinvent herself on her own terms. On this episode of OPINIONish, Mitch English and Travis Dale sit down with meteorologist, author, speaker and podcast host Amy Sweezey to talk about starting over without really starting from zero. Amy opens up about leaving television, separating your identity from your job title, redefining success, embracing failure and learning to “do it scared.” She also gets candid about the challenges women face as they age in television, the sacrifices that come with leaving a secure career and why reinvention can happen at any age. Plus, Amy introduces her newest venture, Florida Weather Authority, and we determine whether buying a Corvette at 49 is reinvention... or just a good old-fashioned midlife crisis. If you've ever wondered whether you're too old, too established or simply too scared to make a change, this episode is for you. CHAPTERS00:00 Starting Over... Have We Forgotten How to Behave?

Have we forgotten how to behave around each other? Somewhere between smartphones, speakerphones, social media, texting and treating every public space like our living room, our unwritten “social contract” may have taken a serious hit. On this episode of OPINIONish, Mitch English and Travis Dale sit down with nationally recognized etiquette expert Maralee McKee, founder of The Etiquette School of America, to talk about what modern manners actually look like. And no, this isn’t an hour about which fork you’re supposed to use. Maralee explains why etiquette is really about respect, confidence, boundaries and making other people feel comfortable. We get into airplane etiquette, texting your boss, social media trolls, first impressions, speakerphones in public, crying babies, reclining seats, bad handshakes, teenagers, apologies, “brutal honesty” and whether “bless your heart” is actually polite… or Southern warfare. We also answer some questions people apparently still need answered: Who gets the airplane armrest? Can you recline your seat? What do you do when somebody takes their shoes off on a plane? How do you escape a conversation without being rude? Should you tell somebody they smell? Is “I’m sorry you were offended” actually an apology? And has technology made us forget how to interact with actual human beings? Maralee also shares the remarkable personal story that led her to etiquette and how learning these skills helped her go from feeling like she didn’t belong in any room to knowing she could belong in every room. Are You Living on Purpose… or Just Drifting Through Life?

You don’t accidentally climb Mount Everest… and you probably don’t accidentally build the life you really want either. So are you living on purpose… or just drifting? Former U.S. Army Ranger and leadership expert Kirk Weisler joins Mitch English and Travis Dale for a funny, fast-moving conversation about intentional living, commitment, identity and what separates people who actually shape their lives from those who simply react to them. Why is motivation overrated? Why can the phrase “I have to” quietly work against you? And what happens when your goals stop being things you hope to do and start becoming part of who you are? Kirk breaks down how intention can change your health, relationships, family culture and leadership. He also explains why consistency beats the occasional burst of motivation, how simple daily reminders can pull you back when life knocks you off course, and why the language you use with yourself matters more than you may realize. Then things get very OPINIONish. Kirk reveals the story behind Walkie Talkie Socks, mismatched socks designed to turn intention into accountability and conversation. Plus, Mitch, Travis and Kirk play ACCIDENT OR INTENTION?, uncovering the bizarre origins of Viagra, Play-Doh, Post-it Notes, Teflon, potato chips and more. And before it’s over, Mitch makes a very real commitment of his own. So what’s one thing in YOUR life you need to become more intentional about? Watch. Listen. OPINIONish on CANCEL CULTURE: S1 E14- Celeb Scandals, Controversies and Comebacks

He mocked her for being "the bottom of the barrel."
