    The body-mind-spirit osteopathic tenet

Join host, Yasmine Ghadache, and two guest speakers, Professor Jorge Esteves and Rafael Zegarra-Parodi, as they discuss their recent paper entitled, 'The legacy and implications of the body-mind-spirit osteopathic tenet: a discussion paper evaluating its clinical relevance in contemporary osteopathic care'. The BMS tenet is derived from Native American principles and its traditional medicine heritage is aligned with the evidence-informed person-centered approach and historic founding of Osteopathic Medicine. Incorporating the BMS tenet into osteopathic care is key in ensuring the diversity of patients’ values and sociocultural assumptions towards health, symptoms, and subsequent care, which range from the typical Western to complementary and alternative medicine perspectives are taken into account. This episode provides an opportunity to initiate discussions in the profession with a rationale for creating a roadmap to develop an evidence-informed framework for osteopathic care that integrates the BMS tenet. Rafael  is a registered osteopath in France and the UK practising in Paris since 1999. He has also been heavily involved in osteopathic education and research with previous posts at the A.T. Still Research Institute in Kirksville, USA and the University College of Osteopathy in London. Currently, he is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine and a member of the non-profit foundation COME Collaboration Board of Trustee. As an osteopath, Rafael has an expertise in the management of chronic and acute neuromusculoskeletal conditions and sport injuries. Professor Jorge Esteves is an osteopath and cognitive scientist. He is currently a Professor of Osteopathy and Vice-Principal at Malta ICOM Educational, an Honorary Professor at the University College of Osteopathy in London, Visiting Professor at Universidad Camilo Cela  in Madrid, and Instituto Piaget in Silves, Portugal and a researcher with Collaboration for Osteopathic Medicine Research in Italy.
