Out of Sight: Missing & Murdered

When 16-year-old Selena Not Afraid goes missing from a rest stop in rural Montana the community comes together to find her. Searches with helicopters, thermal drones, dogs, and hundreds of volunteers cover a 5 mile radius around the rest stop. Selena’s family and volunteer search party stay at the rest stop for weeks. When the search is eventually handed over to law enforcement and Selena’s family leaves the rest stop, Selena is found less than a mile away. Police say that Selena wandered off on the day she went missing and froze to death in the place she was found. Searchers who covered that area say that it would have been impossible to miss finding Selena in that spot. We may never know what happened to Selena but her death is not a mystery. Selena and so many other Native American people go missing and get murdered because the law allows it to happen.

The podcaster admits several times every episode that she doesn’t know much about the subject she is about to talk about. Her underinformed rambling amounts to her opinions about headlines she read this one time. If you are looking for good information look somewhere else.
Informative, heartbreaking, gives all possibilities a chance

First of all, being a native Montanan(not Native American) this story needs more EYES on it, so THANK YOU Emma for doing this podcast! I remember when this story came out on the local news, it was so sad to hear, but of course the media said “cause of death being hypothermia”... and that was that for those of us that did not know Selena personally. Little did many of us know, there was so much information out there that wasn’t said in our local news... Although it is a devastating story, I appreciate that with the help of this podcast, and more awareness from the public eye that it will inevitably help bring light and answers to Selena Not Afraid’s family and friends and hopefully being more awareness to MMIW. To the people that are bashing the podcast host- Don’t you all get what this is about ? This is about Selena and the other MMIW cases out there. This podcast along with others are beneficial in bringing awareness to these woman who have lost their lives. And guess what, biased opinions always exist, anywhere you go, anything you listen to, but often times those biases are not fully disclosed AND paid for by the billion dollar corporations. However Emma says often “in My personal opinion”.. she is letting the listeners know that certain things are her “personal opinion” VS a fact. Also - she is taking about all possible scenarios, not just one, not just cop bashing, many theory’s out there. And of course if you watch the entire series (thus far to October) you’d see the many ideas laid out there for us, the listeners. Thank you Emma! Keep it up. And bless your heart for doing this for these women in MT. ❤️❤️❤️
