In the first of our "The History Of" series on Out on the Paddock, we get to hear about the amazing and rich history of a WA Country Cricket Club that has recently celebrated 50 years of playing regional Cricket, but in actual fact has roots that go back over 100 years. In this episode we get to hear from various generations that have played for YOBS Cricket Club in an Association in WA Country Cricket, that is also rich in history. We get to understand some of that Association history, also in this episode. YOBS prides itself not just on its history, but what it is also currently achieving and the innovative ways it is going about things. From their approach to encouraging and recognising new players and volunteers at the club, to how they have embraced their history and use and grow from that that every day ... well ... you simply need to have a listen.

The March long weekend of 2024 saw the hosting of the annual Senior Womens Country Week Carnival in the Bunbury, Leschenault and Harvey Regions of WA Country. In what turned out to be an outstanding 3 days of Cricket across two grades, the final of the Womens A section in particular resulted in one of the greatest finishes seen in WA Country Cricket history. In this episode of Out on the Paddock, you can hear or relive how it all unfolded and ended up, with live commentary of the dramatic final ball. Also in this episode, is an interview with a very passionate Cricket lover and somebody who is impacting WA Country Cricket through her work at WA Cricket - Alex Lascu. A new season of Out on the Paddock for 2024, kicks off with a bang as we put the spotlight on what are the options for older guys in WA Regional Cricket to get involved with a movement that continues to grow rapidly each year here in Australia ... Veterans Cricket. In this episode, we hear from Nathan King from Burekup Cricket Club, who has recently represented WA in the Over 40s National Championships and then had an opportunity of dreams come to pass, landing a seat on a plane to head off to Pakistan as a part of the Australian Over 40s team for the World Cup. It is a great story and one that could inspire you or someone you know to consider the same opportunities. We then hear from Anthony Telfer ... a man who is an amazing ambassador here in Australia for Veterans Cricket and through his exceptional program "The Spirit of Cricket" is making sure that if you are Over 40 through to Over 70 ... Craig Tonkin is an Albany Cricket legend and favourite son of all things Cricket in the Great Southern. His career spanned over 3 decades playing at the highest level in that region and his ability to win games with either bat or ball in hand, are the stuff of folklore in the bush. "Tonks" as he is known to most of those who know him, carved out a career with North County CC and with the Albany Cricket Association at Mens Senior Country Week, that most could only dream of having. But more importantly, Craig climbed to the top of what Country Cricket offers here in Australia, representing WA at multiple Australian Country Cricket Championships and along the way, etched his name in the record books in a number of categories still to this day for performances at the ACCC. The ultimate allrounder ... arguably there may not have been too many better in WA Country Cricket in the past century.
