Family Safety & Community Defense Against ICE

It's been over a year since the presidential administration massively increased the scale of ICE raids occurring across the country. As conditions in detention centers worsen, deportations occur faster, and ICE operations grow more violent, it's clearer than ever that we must look out for our neighbors. In this episode of "Out With It," Family Equality CEO Darra Gordon speaks with Heidi Altman from the National Immigration Law Center and Bridget Crawford from Immigration Equality about the unique threats LGBTQ+ immigrants face in this moment and how we can most effectively protect our communities. We also hear from Indiana-based couple Rosie and Claudia on how they've maintained activism in a time of lawlessness.  Additional resources: Know Your Rights training: https://youtu.be/x_9z3n109qc How to Find a Loved One After a U.S. Immigration Arrest: https://www.nilc.org/resources/how-to-find-a-loved-one-after-a-u-s-immigration-arrest/  Know Your Rights: What to Do if You Are Arrested or Detained by Immigration: https://www.nilc.org/resources/know-your-rights-what-to-do-if-arrested-detained-immigration/  Green Card Holders: Know Your Rights & Risks During the Second Trump Administration: https://www.nilc.org/resources/green-card-holders-know-your-rights-risks-during-the-second-trump-administration/ Step-by-step Family Preparedness Plan: https://www.ilrc.org/sites/default/files/2024-11/Step-by-Step%20Family%20Preparedness%20Plan_ENG_FULL_Nov%202024.pdf  About the National Immigration Law Center: Working at the intersection of immigrant, economic, and racial justice, NILC deploys a multi-pronged strategy to secure lasting, transformational change. Finding and Creating Safe Spaces in 2025 ⎹ Family Week

In this episode of "Out With It," we're exploring the history of Family Week — from its unexpected beginnings in 1994 to the massive phenomenon it's become over 30 years later. How did a seemingly simple safe space become the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ families in the world? And how can you create that same sense of safety and belonging at home? We're excited to host special guests, including Scott Davenport, one of the parents who helped found Family Week; Donna Walker, Provincetown's Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Manuel Quintero, a current Family Week attendee and the founder of the San Diego Gay Dads Group. Family Equality is creating a world where everyone can experience the love, safety, and belonging of family.
