The Power of Local: Why Community Still Matters More Than Ever A Conversation with Adam Pinsky of Issaquah Spotlight

Parenting Upstream sits down with Adam Pinsky, founder of The Issaquah Spotlight, to explore the power of community and why connection matters now more than ever. Adam wanted to re-create a new local publication since our city lost the Issaquah Press years ago. He's now started an online publication that highlights local stories and brings people together - something much more meaningful. Adam shares how building The Issaquah Spotlight became a way to strengthen connection in a time when many people feel increasingly disconnected. In this conversation, we talk about what it really means to create community, the impact of showing up locally, and how small, intentional efforts can create a ripple effect far beyond what we see. Adam also offers thoughtful parenting insight from his perspective as a father of two adult sons. He reflects on what mattered most while raising them, the lessons he’s carried forward, and how connection at home shapes how we show up in the world. This episode is a reminder that whether in our families or our communities, connection doesn’t happen by accident - it’s something we build, nurture, and choose every day. The Issaquah Spotlight values credibility, transparency, independence and service, with a focus on stories that reflect Issaquah’s many voices, issues and perspectives. Coverage features local government, our schools, public safety, transportation, businesses and more. The online publication delivers FREE to your inbox every Friday. Subscribe today.
