Ologies with Alie Ward

A dozen times each show, Alie will pause the interview tape and elaborate on something the guest just said but didn’t explain. Almost always, Alie will do current research to make sure she’s got it right before enlightening us. She does it in a way that’s warm, sharing, and without ego, the substance of what she’s found is directly relevant to the point the guest touched on, and she ends up providing context that triples what we know and understand. Until now, I’ve been blown away by how much her asides and great questions have made subjects such as long covid, trees, spiders, OCD, magic mushrooms — the list is very long — so much more informative and perspective-altering than I thought possible. And today she did it with revolutions, both past and present, with research and commentary that was responsive to and candid about the insanity that ordered the National Guard into L.A. It’s an amazing podcast. I’m just worried you’re doing too much. To hear John Oliver tell it, his shows take 2 months and 10 researchers to whip into its final shape. You seem to be doing one huge subject after another and every week. Please slow down. You’ll stay #1. Can’t wait until our 7-year-old grandsons can listen to Smologies!

Hi Alie! I just listened to the rattlesnake episode and was so fascinated. Mere days later my friends and I encountered the cutest tiniest little snake. They all insist it was a baby rattlesnake. I’m still not convinced. He had a pointy tail. I shared my new wealth of knowledge with them, frequently stating, “you guys, I just listened to a podcast about rattlesnakes. I know what I’m talking about.” Anyway, we left him alone, rattle or not.

Come for the science, stay for the class consciousness. Thank you, Alie and guests, for taking the time to discuss interesting topics and for not being afraid to connect them to real life events. It’s hot. It’s relevant. Thanks Dad.

Can we just keep the politics out of a wonderful show. I love this show to get away from the world and learn about things that isn’t stressful and ya just gotta bring it in. :(
