    Show Me Yourself

Some prayers are quiet. Some are broad. Some are the sort any of us might pray on any given Sunday. This one was none of those. This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a woman who prayed a single specific request from a hospital bed at twenty-one years old — and has spent the last twenty-five years watching God answer it in front of her family, in front of her husband, and in front of every last person who had ever known her before she was the kind of woman who prayed anything at all. Raised Catholic in a broken home. A mother in field labor. A little brother she began raising when she was still a child. A marriage at nineteen to a drug-dealing husband who came faithfully to every service she attended, but would not surrender. A brother lost to heroin after a childhood prescription ran out. Groceries that appeared on a porch in answer to a promise she had barely learned to read. A pastor she had never met making a U-turn out of freeway traffic to come and find her. This is the story of a young mother who asked the Lord for one specific thing that only He could give — and of a family whose story has been rewritten so completely that she and her husband still sit on the porch some evenings and remind each other, babe — we're here. www.pathstoglory.com If you’re enjoying Paths to Glory, be sure to check out our two other podcasts! Internal Bleeding

This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a young woman who was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ before she could tie her own shoes, and received the Holy Ghost when she was five years old. She did not need to be rescued from the streets. She did not need to be rescued from a jail cell. She needed to be rescued from something the world was never going to see — a slow bleeding on the inside of a life that looked, from every angle out there, exactly the way a Pentecostal life is supposed to look. Her father was a lay minister who prayed people through to the Holy Ghost — until he wasn't. Her mother was a woman of quiet, unshakable prayer who never spoke a word against him. And the daughter in between them carried, for years, a bitterness so heavy she still uses the word hatred to describe it. This is the story of what a sermon she cannot remember started in her, what a pastor's wife's single sentence finished, what a very specific prayer received a very specific answer to within fifteen minutes, and what a house fire two weeks before her wedding taught her about the family of God. And, in the end, of a childhood memory about a light that could finally be turned off — because the room had never actually been empty. www.pathstoglory.com If you’re enjoying Paths to Glory, be sure to check out our two other podcasts! The Gospel of Relationship

Most testimonies are the story of one life turning. This one is the story of four generations of a family that would not stop reaching for the next one. This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a man whose ministry has now spanned fifty years — and every one of those years traces back to a brush arbor meeting in a field in Indiana almost a hundred years ago. Two great-grandmothers who came home full of the Holy Ghost. A grandfather who built a church in his own garage. A mother who prayed for a hardheaded son for twelve years — and then, when that prayer did not bring him home, quietly began praying for a wife who would. Hers is not the only prayer God answered. What follows is a life shaped by everyone who bothered to build a relationship with a man who did not yet know he needed one — a pastor who asked one honest question at a peeling-paint door, a congregation that made a stranger feel like a son, a bus route he ran the first weekend after he received the Holy Ghost, and a Bible study his wife started with a sixteen-year-old girl who answered the door with a toddler in diapers on her hip. The toddler grew up. He is pastoring a church of his own now. And the man who was once the hardheaded son, at seventy-seven, is still the first one at the door of the sanctuary he serves — greeting strangers the way strangers once greeted him. www.pathstoglory.com If you’re enjoying Paths to Glory, be sure to check out our two other podcasts! Teach My Hands to War

There is a moment in almost every man's testimony when he has to be told a sentence he cannot forget. Sometimes it comes from a judge. Sometimes from a father. Sometimes it comes from a pastor, late in the game, after years of drift. This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a man whose whole life has been shaped by two of those sentences — spoken years apart, by two very different men. Born into a coastal California home broken open by gang violence. Nine years old when a mother's tears explained that his father was not coming home from prison. Eleven the first time he was sent to a juvenile detention center for a fight of his own. A cycle that seemed like it would never end — until a pregnant girlfriend, a brother's late-night text, and a jail cell facing fifteen years began to arrange the beginning of a very different story. But this testimony is not really about how he got out. It is about a sentence a pastor spoke to him years later — one line that reshaped how he prays, how he fathers, and what his own boys will inherit from a man they now watch every day at the altar. www.pathstoglory.com If you’re enjoying Paths to Glory, be sure to check out our two other podcasts! The Tree That Didn't Die

Most testimonies follow a familiar shape — someone was lost, someone was found. But some lives don't divide that cleanly. This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a young man in his early twenties whose story is not about how he was rescued from the world — it is about what held inside him when everything he had leaned on was suddenly taken away. Born into a family that prayed through together every morning before school. Raised by a father who, when spanking was no longer the answer, would come stand beside him and pray, then walk the rooms of the house praying over the doorways. Fifteen years old when that father was lost to cancer, after a church that had prayed for healing until the very last night. What followed were years of drift that never once became departure — and a slow, quiet return, service by service, prayer by prayer, to the roots that had been put down in him long before he knew what they were. Because as he would tell you now, in his own careful words: the tree hadn't died. It was just drought. www.pathstoglory.com If you’re enjoying Paths to Glory, be sure to check out our two other podcasts! Lessons Learned from the Carpet

Some testimonies arrive with fire and thunder. Others arrive with the quiet hum of a vacuum cleaner. This week on Paths to Glory, we sit with a man born two blocks behind the church he would spend thirty years running from. Probation by the age of eleven. Three prison sentences. A father figure murdered when he was eight, a mother taken, and a moral compass he tried for decades to drown out. And underneath all of it, a mother who would not stop praying. His is the story of a vow made on his knees in a county jail cell before he even knew his sentence — of a Bible read more than forty times inside — and of a limp back through the sanctuary doors of the very church he had once been chased out of. Not saved by thunder, but by the patient, unglamorous work of a God who was never once in a hurry. And of the lessons a redeemed man began to learn when he picked up a vacuum cleaner and started tending an altar. www.pathstoglory.com If you’re enjoying Paths to Glory, be sure to check out our two other podcasts!
