DOG PARK WITH BEERS | The Doghaus | Pawareness Podcast No. 84
In this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, host Kris McCauley welcomes The Doghaus Co-Founder Kevin Simpson. The Doghaus is a sports bar and a dog park. They welcome dogs of all breeds as long as they are being taken great care for by their owners. Located in St. Louis, Missouri, The Doghaus is a dog-friendly park where owners can chill and where pets can play.
What inspired the founders in opening their park is the demand for pubs and bars in their local community. Kevin and his co-founders thought about opening a unique business that is also inclusive to animals. Once they made their announcement on social media, they received a lot of positive feedback from the locals themselves.
Aside from operating as a business, The Doghaus supports and raises funds for local animal rescues and shelters. They make sure that animals in their community have a home and family to live with and to spend the rest of their lives. They also organize animal-centered events such as birthday parties for dogs.
“If we can do two or three of these things and franchise the business, that would be my dream.” - Kevin Simpson

SAVING ANIMALS FOR ELEVEN YEARS | WAG Rescue | Pawareness Podcast No. 82
In this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, host Kris McCauley welcomes Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Community Outreach Julee Reslewic. Providing homes for abandoned and surrendered dogs in a tight-knit community, the rescue aims to give another chance at life and an opportunity for hope for dogs in need of homes.
Since they started in 2009, the rescue has grown over the years with their services for dogs and pet-owners. They facilitate foster and adoption programs in the western Hayes County, Texas. By providing medical and emotional care for dogs, the rescue also collaborates with local organizations to fulfill their mission.
This year, the rescue is planning to expand their nursery which they started last year. This facility addresses the need for puppies to have a safe and comfortable environment as they develop into adult dogs. The rescue is also setting their sights on building a healing house for recovering dogs.
“Eleven years is a pretty good number for a relatively small rescue. Our goal is to take in and help a hundred dogs.” - Julee Reslewic

ANIMAL CRISIS IN THE SOUTH | Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter | Pawareness Podcast No. 81
In this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, host Kris McCauley sits down with the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter Receptionist Catherine Moore. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, the shelter takes in animals from Tuscaloosa City, Northport City, and the areas covered by the scope of Tuscaloosa County.
Catherine stresses the importance of raising awareness about the benefits of spay-neuter for dogs and cats in the local communities. After witnessing animal overpopulation in their area, she feels the need for long-term solutions to be conducted in places where such problematic issues remain prevalent.
Partnering with local rescues, the shelter coordinates the transportation of animals in need of homes and temporary places to stay. The shelter also organizes various programs that provide opportunities for rehoming animals through digital communication. Collaborating with local veterinary clinics, they provide medical procedures such as spay-neuter to address animal overpopulation.
“We’re big on social media, and it’s one of the best ways to get the word out and to help more!” - Catherine Moore

STOP ANIMAL BREEDERS | Animal Rescue Mission | Pawareness Podcast No. 80
In this episode of the Pawareness Podcast, host Kris McCauley welcomes Animal Rescue Mission Founder Shira Scott Astrof. As a non-profit rescue, Animal Rescue Mission aims to save abused dogs and cats in Los Angeles. The organization provides them with adoption opportunities and safer places to call home. With a shelter based in Mexico, Animal Rescue Mission also takes in animals in need of rescuing from different places in the world.
Despite some challenging and overwhelming circumstances where they had to take in a great number of dogs, Animal Rescue Mission continues to pursue their advocacy in finding the right foster families for their animals. By doing a background check with foster homes, they make sure that the people who will provide homes for their animals are the right fit.
Addressing modern-day animal issues like the scarcity of spay-and-neuter clinics and the overpopulation of strays, Animal Rescue Mission supplies resources to communities that need solutions the most. Shira also cites that the inhumane dog breeding activity perpetuated by unlicensed organizations also poses a major problem that results in overpopulation. This is rampant in Los Angeles where awareness about animals needs to be raised and disseminated among communities.
“Animal cruelty needs to be punished.” - Shira Scott Astrof

Great Guests!
Listened to episode 4, I am an enormous fan of Reed, her dogs, and life coaching. I was attracted to her dog coaching style because it is more based on building a relationship with your dog versus just punishing. The podcast for me had come along when I needed it the most and in a format that I can take anywhere. I can’t wait for more! I hope Kris does more interviews with such great guests in the future too.
A Must Listen!
Great podcast, short & sweet, and to the point! Kris has always been a great host and invited guests with a wealth of information, and I’m so excited about how he rises to the top. Looking forward to future episodes in this journey. Great job in spreading Awareness!
