    42. Your Emotional Baseline: Some Variability is Good and Normal

I have found that some of the basic concepts of a medical screening tool I use in my bedside nursing practice are useful as a framework to understand my own normal emotional experience without catastrophizing every down day. Because we all know some ups and downs are normal and even part of a good, whole life experience. Life would be kinda boring if we felt exactly the same 100% of the time, and we wouldn’t learn as much from our experiences and relationships. Healthy variability matters. Emotions are wonderful messengers about what we need, what we want, how we are doing. What I want you to pay attention to is where you're returning to most of the time. Are you able to recover after the hard moments? Do you have enough variability and reserve in your life? Or are you starting to feel flatter and more depleted? That is a guide for what support or intervention you might look for as a next step. Relating life concepts to labor and delivery is a fun and memorable way for me to remember what I’ve learned and teach what I’m learning. I’m coming to you unscripted today to share how I’ve been thinking about it lately and what were some helpful take-aways for me in hopes you find it supportive as well. Take care. 41. Celebration and Grief as Keys for Lasting Change

Sometimes we want to create a new habit, let go of an old one, or step confidently into a new life stage…but it feels like we’re trying to force our way through a locked door that won’t let us give. Two things have helped me to move through these transitions with more ease and grace, and they are celebration and grieving. Celebration is often not our first thought (even mine!), and grieving seems opposite, but it’s all part of the process. Sometimes we move through it without realizing those parts are there. And sometimes highlighting them is what makes what once seemed impossible, possible. Bring your current challenge and apply this, you won’t regret it. And if you don’t want to do this work alone, I have spots open for 1:1 that might be a good fit. 2.24 When Rest Doesn't Feel Good (And Why That's Okay)

If you've ever struggled to sit still without feeling like you should be doing something more "productive," this conversation is for you.  Let’s wrap up this impromptu summer series on Rest. It’s so funny how this happens. I’m recording this episode about the importance of rest, and then within 1 hour of recording I’m thinking that it’s too long so I should edit more, I remember a story that would be a WAY better example, and the idea pops in that I should re-write the outline and re-record during a time I’m not scheduled to work on it and publish it later… What a perfect opportunity to take my own advice I did share. “What’s done is enough,” my rest during non-work time is equally valuable, and my own value doesn’t come from a “perfect” episode. What I share isn’t bad, I do put in effort to create something worthwhile and valuable for you, and I trust that if you choose to listen to any of it, you will get something you’re looking for from our connection here. You are one of my favorite parts of podcasting! Timestamps (00:00) Welcome and a pause (01:36) Why rest can feel uncomfortable (05:30) Five reasons rest doesn't always feel good (09:33) Finding the kind of rest that actually works for you (12:01) Reframing productivity and self-worth (14:13) Letting go of the fear of looking lazy (17:52) Appreciating your body's need for rest (19:57) Why rest has value all by itself (24:15) Episode recap (26:28) Time Hackers opportunity and discount (30:28) Closing Links & Resources I’d love to hear from you!: hello@meaganhubbard.com DM’s open on Instagram @meaganhubbardcoaching I am doing something out of the ordinary here.* I'm sharing someone else’s group coaching offer. 2.23 Reframing Rest: How to Live More Rested (Not Just More Sleep)

Do you ever start to think that feeling rested simply means you just need more sleep (or less work)? Me too. But I think we both know it isn’t. It’s just one answer and often the easiest. That’s totally fine that our brains think of that first, and I’m curious enough to expand my “choose all that apply” options for living more rested. How about you?  I’m both realizing and remembering that what I want rest for is more than physical, it’s also mental and emotional. And while I love sleep as one way to restore and nourish oneself in all 3 areas, I turned to the 6 P’s to consider more healthy habits that promote living rested, even when sleep is not an option right now, when sleep isn’t even the underlying issue, or isn’t necessarily the needle-moving solution. I'm recognizing that in a lot of ways, rest has more to do with being able to tap into increased self trust and a parasympathetic response. Timestamps (00:00) Welcome back and breathing together (01:52) Why rest is more than just sleep (05:26) Introducing the Six Ps of Rest (06:10) Purpose as an anchor (09:41) Permission to not like everything, to accept help, to let “work” rest your mind (13:53) Why play restores us (15:29) Patterns that reduce decision fatigue (18:24) Presence and my forgotten work shift (22:24) Perspective and reframing everyday life (28:39) Final recap and encouragement Links & Resources Email me: hello@meaganhubbard.com Listen to Episode 22 for the beginning of this conversation on rest. Don't Rush to Rested: Another Way We Push ThroughWhy rest is a lifelong practice and how to let go of grind cultureSHOWNOTES I don’t know about you, but some types of rest leave me feeling more alive and some types of relaxation leave me feeling actually more depleted.
