    Hymn #28 Heroes

    What can Stranger Things Season 5 teach us about the Christian faith? Throughout time people cherish stories that present the victory of good over evil, sacrifice for the greater good, and "happily ever after". I believe that natural desire is part of our search for God. This episode is broken down into 3 verses. The 1st verse (00:00-31:34) discusses the appeal to the series Stranger Things. No spoilers. The 2nd verse (31:35-50:18) shares some critiques of the final episode, things that didn't make sense, or were just funny.     Hymn #27 Do They Know Its Christmas

    Coach breaks down the hymn into 3 verses: Verse 1: Do They Know Its Christmas as School? Many schools are doing away with Christmas traditions in the name of diversity.     Hymn #26 Truth Hits Everybody

    What happens when truth becomes whatever you feel it is, and disagreeing with someone’s reality is suddenly oppressive? From the Inquisition to postmodern culture wars, Western society has swung from God-centered, objective truth to ‘my truth is law.’’ In this episode, we dive into Francis Schaeffer’s 1970s warning that ditching reality for feelings would make life weird (understatement), why atheistic scientists often have more in common with biblical Christians than postmodern social constructivists (and why podcasters like Joe Rogan are giving those thinkers more and more of a platform), and how The Police got it right: truth hits everybody. The lyrics of the hymn will be filled with thought of identity, the chaos created by the collection of individual truths, and why silencing someone because you don’t like their facts is basically medieval inquisitor cosplay—without the hooded robes but armed with bhashtags.     Hymn #25 Meant to Live

    What should a Christian's role in politics be? On this hymn, Coach, dives into the recent off-year elections and what they reveal about the state of American politics. We discuss Donald Trump not as a conservative ideologue, but as a pragmatist (tariffs anyone?), and explore how his approach often clashes with biblical wisdom—especially when it comes to James’ teaching about the power of the tongue, a lesson he clearly still needs. How each political party needs to watch its extremes and the failure of German Prime Minister Hindenburg looking to control and utilize a mere corporal and its devastating consequences. We look closely at Virginia voters, who might denounce Trump’s rhetoric yet still supported an attorney general who publicly wished death on a political opponent, raising questions about moral consistency in political choices. From there, we explore the problems of communism throughout history using the lesson of the Tower of Babel, not as a story of judgment alone, but as a sign of God’s mercy in scattering humanity. Switchfoot’s anthem “Meant to Live” reminds us that we were created for so much more than politics or partisan loyalty.     Hymn #24 Wonderwall

    Everyone places their faith in something is a truth we cannot escape. Each one of us are seeking that ultimate truth. Coach continues his series on the apologetics for the Christian faith that he is currently teaching his senior high Sunday school.     Hymn #23 Everybody Wants to Rule the World

    Continuing a series from what he is teaching to teens in Sunday School class, Coach discusses the questions, "What is wrong with the world?" and shares the conflicting views of the Biblical concept of sin and the philosopher's Rousseau's view that society causes human evil and we must change the system (or in modern parlance, systemic change). Also going to a brief discussion of Nietzsche and his challenge for people to be their own god, or super man. But that what the temptation was to Adam and Eve in the Garden, "You will be like God". Coach takes a step back to look at Adam and Eve before the fall, what it means to be created in the Image of God, and how human sin is at the heart and in the heart of all of us.

    Hymn #22 Absolute Reality

    Like it or not, we all live by faith. None of us have infinite knowledge of anything; reality is that we are finite creatures locked in by time and space. On this hymn (and series of hymns) Coach shares what he is discussing with his Senior High Sunday School class this year. On this first in the series we focus on Absolute Reality and what view of reality we place our faith in drives how we act and what we believe, and we begin to develop why the Christian worldview relates most to reality.     Hymn #21 To Forgive

    After a summer break, Coach is back sharing his concern of the polarization in American politics but tragically needed to change his example due to horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk. If "We the People" believe in Freedom of Speech, then no matter your political persuasion you should be denouncing what occurred, sadly there are many people who disliked Kirk in life who are trying to play the "yeah it was wrong, but" game. Coach then questions the propriety of a curriculum focused on the negatives of US History and the progressive view that has made its way from academia into the K-12 classroom (sharing experiences with his own daughter's school district who Language Arts department has bought into the oppressed/oppressor view of Paulo Freire hook, line, and sinker) and discusses the Hitchcock film "The Rope" where students enact the philosophy of their beloved teacher with deadly results. The hymn concludes with a discussion of how sin forms in our inability to control our desires and shares the solution that Charlie Kirk and he found, God's love demonstrated through Jesus Christ. The song for this week is a little known Christian song from the 80's from one of Coach's favorite artists, Steve Taylor. Here is the song he discusses in the hymn. Steve Taylor "To Forgive"
