The Mysterious Case of Eastern Air Lines Flight 401This week, Declan is taking the reins and filling us in on one of his specialist subjects... aviation disasters. And trust us, the story of Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 is creepy enough before you even start talking about the ghosts.Yes. No demonic possessions. No centuries-old legends.Just a real, documented aviation disaster followed by some of the most compelling paranormal accounts we've come across so far.Could the crew of Flight 401 really have remained behind?Or has one of aviation's greatest ghost stories grown from an unimaginable tragedy?Join Lydia and Declan as we unpack the disaster, the alleged hauntings and the evidence behind them — with plenty of tangents and the usual Phasmaphobes chaos along the way.Whether you believe in ghosts or not, this one is seriously difficult to explain.Subscribe for more paranormal deep dives, dark history, strange true stories and unexplained mysteries.Follow Phasmaphobes:TikTok: @Phasmaphobes.podInstagram: @PhasmaphobesAnd let us know in the comments: Do you believe the ghosts of Flight 401 came back to protect other passengers?

Episode 15: The Mysterious Case of The Earling Possession

This week, Lydia and Declan travel back to 1920s America to uncover one of the most terrifying and controversial cases of alleged demonic possession ever recorded. Welcome to The Earling Possessio. In 1928, a woman known in accounts as Anna Ecklund arrived at a convent in the tiny town of Earling, Iowa, seeking help for something that had allegedly tormented her for years. What followed was an exorcism said to have lasted for months! Witnesses claimed Anna could understand languages she had never learned, reacted violently to religious objects, refused food, produced horrifying smells and displayed physical abilities that seemingly couldn't be explained. And according to those present, Anna wasn't alone. Multiple entities were allegedly identified during the exorcism, each with their own story and their own reason for tormenting her. But as with every case we cover, we're not stopping at the scary bits. Who actually was Anna Ecklund How much of the story can be verified What really happened inside that convent And after almost a century of retellings, how much of the Earling Possession is history... and how much has become legend Lydia and Declan dig into the accounts surrounding the case, the religious beliefs of the time, the priests involved and some of the most disturbing claims to emerge from the alleged exorcism. And then there's the paranormal aftermath. Stories surrounding the building suggest that whatever happened in Earling may not have ended when the exorcism did. Was Anna genuinely possessed by something demonic Was there another explanation for what witnesses claimed to have seen or has one extraordinary story simply grown darker with every retelling Whatever you believe, this is one hell of a rabbit hole. Expect demons, exorcisms, questionable decisions, disturbing history, competing theories and, naturally, Lydia and Declan going completely off topic at several points along the way. Episode 14: The Mysterious Case of Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

Phasmaphobes Episode 14: The Mysterious Case of Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum This week, Lydia and Declan step inside one of the most famous and controversial asylums in American history. Welcome to Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. For years, it's been labelled one of the most haunted places in America. Countless paranormal investigators have claimed to hear disembodied voices, encounter shadow figures and experience unexplained phenomena within its towering Gothic halls. But before you can understand the hauntings... you have to understand the history. In this episode, we take a deep dive into the asylum's remarkable past, exploring why it was built, the lives of the thousands of patients who lived there, and the treatments that have made the institution both infamous and widely misunderstood. Thanks to an exclusive interview with members of the asylum's own staff, we're able to go beyond the ghost stories and uncover a side of Trans-Allegheny that is often overlooked. Were the doctors really the monsters history has made them out to be? Or were they simply working with the medical knowledge available at the time, trying to help people with methods that we now know were deeply flawed? We explore: The history and architecture of the asylum The realities of 19th and 20th century mental healthcare Overcrowding, patient life and controversial treatments The biggest myths surrounding the hospital Exclusive insights from our interview with the Trans-Allegheny team The chilling paranormal reports that continue to attract investigators from around the world From abandoned wards and endless corridors to stories of shadow figures, phantom voices and unexplained encounters, we examine why so many people believe the asylum is still home to those who never truly left. But we also ask a bigger question... Are these spirits the victims of unimaginable trauma, or has decades of sensationalism shaped the way we see this place? As always, expect thoughtful discussion, a few wild theories, plenty of historical rabbit holes and the usual Phasmaphobes tangents along the way. Whether you're here for the paranormal, the history or the psychology behind one of America's most iconic institutions, this is an episode you won't want to miss. Watch now and decide for yourself. Episode 11: The Mysterious Case of Michael Taylor

Phasmaphobes Episode 11: The Mysterious Case of Michael Taylor This week, we dive into a story so disturbing, bizarre and controversial that it still sparks debate nearly 50 years later. Exorcisms. Demonic possession. Religious hysteria. Murder. Welcome to the terrifying case of Michael Taylor. In 1974, the quiet town of Ossett became the centre of one of Britain’s most chilling paranormal cases when Michael Taylor, an ordinary husband and father, began behaving in ways nobody could explain. After becoming involved with a deeply intense religious group, Michael’s mental state rapidly deteriorated. Witnesses claimed he snarled, barked like an animal, and seemed completely consumed by something dark. Then came the exorcism. A marathon all-night ritual carried out by priests who believed Michael was possessed by multiple demons. But according to them… they didn’t get them all. Just hours later, one of the most horrifying crimes imaginable took place. And that’s where this story truly begins. In this episode, the Phasmaphobes team unpack the full timeline of the Michael Taylor case — separating fact from fiction as we explore: The rise of extreme religious influence in 1970s Britain The terrifying details of the alleged possession What actually happened during the exorcism The brutal aftermath that shocked the country And whether this was a genuine case of demonic possession… or something far more human As always, we somehow manage to balance one of the darkest cases we’ve ever covered with ridiculous tangents, questionable theories and the usual northern chaos. Because no matter what you believe, this story will stay with you. Was Michael Taylor possessed? Manipulated? Mentally unwell? Or did something truly sinister take hold that night? Episode 10: The Mysterious Case of The Perron Family

Phasmaphobes Episode 10: The Mysterious Case of The Perron Family For our 10th episode, we had to go big… And this may be one of the creepiest, most disturbing haunting cases we’ve covered so far. This week, we dive deep into the terrifying story of the Perron family — the real-life haunting that inspired one of the highest grossing horror films of all time, The Conjuring. And trust us… the real story is even stranger. In the 1970s, the Perron family moved into a remote farmhouse in Rhode Island expecting a fresh start. Instead, they claim they were immediately greeted by the spirits already living there. Children laughing in the attic. Old men appearing in hallways. Beds rising from the floor. Voices in the night. Dark entities watching from corners of the house. And that’s only the beginning. The eldest daughter, Andrea Perron later wrote books detailing what she says truly happened inside the house — and her own theory points toward the spirit of Mrs Arnold, a former resident tied to the property’s tragic history. But famed paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren believed something far darker was at play… A malevolent entity she connected to Bathsheba Sherman — a woman rumoured to have practised witchcraft and linked to the deaths of children. Was Bathsheba truly an evil force? Was the haunting misunderstood? Or did Hollywood completely distort what really happened? We break down what was real in The Conjuring, what was exaggerated for the movie… and perhaps most chilling of all… what was completely left out. And in a shocking twist… Lydia, officially our most sceptical team member, finished this episode questioning everything. If that doesn’t make you curious, we don’t know what will. Expect terrifying paranormal encounters, dark family history, heated theories, and the usual Phasmaphobes tangents along the way. Watch now and let us know what YOU think really happened inside that farmhouse. Listen on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
