263: The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ - True Servants vs Miserable Wicked Men Part 17

This episode anchors faith and hope firmly in revelation and correct action, teaching that faith is not a measurement of belief in God but action upon receiving revelation, and that hope is the alignment and submission of our will with God’s will through belief and trust in Him. Phil explains that a man or woman with hope orients life, goals, desires, and the use of time toward Jesus Christ, His invitations, and His promises, and that the strength of faith is measured by what it accomplishes. Phil teaches that exceedingly strong faith is correct action that allows a man or woman to access the power of God to accomplish God’s purposes, and that the exercise of faith or receiving and acting correctly on personal revelation, builds the faithful into wise wheat unto salvation while separating foolish tares for destruction (Ether 12:15,19; Alma 26:22). He outlines that belief in Jesus Christ is more than profession; it is entering into the new and everlasting covenant, offering the sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit, receiving baptism of water, and having one’s case plead by Christ before the Father to receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost (Alma 26:21–22). Using the ministry of Ammon and the sons of Mosiah, Phil walks us through the sacrifices, hardships, and mighty faith required before miracles come, from imprisonment and rejection to deliverance and conversion among the Lamanites (Alma 17–26). He explains how faith-filled action softened the hearts of kings, liberated prisoners, and led entire peoples to covenant with God, bury their weapons, and resist sin even unto death after receiving a remission of sins (Alma 23–24). This episode closes with the reminder that only by repenting, believing on the name of Christ, and exercising exceedingly great faith will we be able to thrust in our sickle while the summer is still here and bring souls unto Him. 262: The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ - True Servants vs Miserable Wicked Men Part 16

In part 16 of this continuing series, Phil expounds on hope, faith, and miracles in the ministry of Ammon, showing how alignment with God’s will prepares individuals to receive salvation by entering into covenant with God by following the doctrine of Christ. Phil explains that hope is the alignment of our will with God’s will, so a man or woman with true hope orients life, desires, and actions toward Jesus Christ and His promises. From that alignment, faith creates the conditions through which God accomplishes His work, and miracles follow not as the goal, but as evidence that individuals have acted upon revelation, while the end goal remains the accomplishment of God’s purposes. Phil teaches that Ammon’s experiences among the Lamanites reveal this divine pattern. Ammon sought revelation to know where he should serve and acted in faith on what he received, establishing the spiritual foundation for all that followed (Alma 17). Ammon’s deliverance of the king’s servants demonstrated spiritual preparation and divine guidance, using inspired strategy to win hearts and lead them to belief in Christ (Alma 17). Phil outlines how Ammon then brought King Lamoni to a knowledge of things that are just and true, guiding him into the plan of redemption or the doctrine of Christ, whereby men and women become adopted sons and daughters of Christ through the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and enter into the rest of the Lord (Alma 18:34–39; D&C 76:53–54). Phil connects Lamoni’s cry unto the Lord and his repentance to parallel experiences across scripture, showing a consistent pattern of baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost. The episode closes with the reminder that the heavens are open again, and as in ancient days, God continues to extend His covenants and power to all who will offer a broken heart and a contrite spirit and align their lives fully with His will. 261: The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ - True Servants vs Miserable Wicked Men Part 15

In part 15 of this continuing series, Phil explores what it truly means to walk by faith when covenant discipleship leads not to immediate deliverance, but to sorrow, affliction, and patient endurance. Anchored in the experiences of Alma, Amulek, Nephi, and Lehi, Phil teaches that faith matures as our will becomes aligned with God’s will, and that divine power follows alignment, not demand. Phil explains that many times, one that enters into covenant with Christ does not find immediate success but must wade through much sorrow and affliction, as illustrated in Alma’s experience in Ammonihah (Alma 8:14–17). He outlines how Alma and Amulek were filled with the Holy Ghost after Alma taught Amulek the doctrine of Christ, Amulek offered a sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit, and both acted on revealed instruction. Alma was given priesthood power to perform the ordinance, and as they obeyed, they were filled with the Holy Ghost and were given power (Moroni 2; Alma 8). Phil teaches that Amulek’s call required acting on revelation that deeply affected his own family and community, reminding listeners that when someone accepts a call to serve God, they will have to endure great burdens, even greater than they could ever endure except for the support of Jesus Christ (Alma 10). Phil explains, sometimes, exercising faith means refraining from using heavenly power, faithfully witnessing a lamb going quietly to the slaughter without rescue, or being a lamb going quietly to the slaughter so that God’s judgments can be just. Alma’s imprisonment demonstrates this principle further. Even in extreme deprivation, Alma continued to exercise faith and petitioned the Lord, and only when his faith aligned with God’s timing was he granted power to be freed (Alma 14). Phil teaches, that faith does not compel immediate miracles but acts with patience until faith is aligned with God’s will; when alignment comes, power & miracles comes (Ether 12; Hebrews 11). Turning to Helaman 5, Phil parallels this pattern with Nephi and Lehi, who endured many days in prison without food. Their hope was aligned fully with the Father’s purpose to bring about a mighty conversion, they were encircled with heavenly fire, the voice of the Lord was heard and deliverance came (Helaman 5). Their great humility was manifest as they focused solely on the Father’s purposes, testifying to us that hope is the alignment of our will with God’s work. (Moses 1:39). 260: The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ - True Servants vs Miserable Wicked Men Part 14

In part 14 of this continuing series, Phil teaches that the measure of faith is shown by what it accomplishes, and that faith, hope, and desire work together in a divine cycle. Drawing from Moroni 7 and Moroni 10, Phil explains that belief and trust in Jesus Christ generate hope, and hope gives rise to stronger faith. A sincere heart and real intent, meaning we are willing to accept whatever answer the Lord gives will create the desire that leads to the exercise of powerful faith. Through this process, and by the power of the Holy Ghost, Father reveals truth and corrects our conclusions as we willingly align our will with Him.  Phil teaches that hope through the Atonement is only possible when we offer the sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit (Moroni 7). Examples from scripture show how humility transforms weakness into strength (Ether 12), including Enoch, who received the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, overcame his weakness in speech, and exercised a greater faith seeing through the veil with an “eye of faith” (Moses 6; Ether 12:19). Phil also explains the pattern of receiving higher priesthood authority, noting the First and Second Orders of the Melchizedek Priesthood bestowed upon prophets such as Enoch, Moses, and Nephi by the voice of the Father (Moses 6, Moses 1 & 3 Nephi 11).  Phil highlights that throughout scripture; Helaman 5, Alma 14, 3 Nephi 19, Acts 2, disciples of Christ exercise exceedingly strong faith in Jesus Christ, resulting in the reception of the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, miracles, and other transformative spiritual experiences. He reminds us that revelation is never casual; it requires obedience, sacrifice, and preparation. Miracles have not ceased (Moroni 7:36–39), and the same power held by ancient servants of God is available to all who exercise great faith, hope, and trust in Christ.  Phil concludes that the Lord continues to call “other servants” (JST Matthew 21; D&C 101, 112, 103), and that Joseph Smith stands as the prophesied servant raised up in the last days. The path remains the same: to seek Christ by revelation, exercise mighty faith, receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, and press forward keeping all of Christ’s commandments until we enter the rest of the Lord.  Come and learn the Doctrine of Christ.  TheRedemptionOfZion.org

259: The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ - True Servants vs Miserable Wicked Men Part 13

In part 13 of this continuing series, Phil teaches that salvation is deeply relational, rooted in entering and keeping covenant with God. He explains that the Light of Christ is the divine law, power, and intelligence that fills and governs all things, enabling order, creation, and judgment (D&C 88; D&C 93). Phil outlines how the Spirit of Christ allows all people to discern good from evil, drawing them toward covenant loyalty to Christ, while anything that persuades otherwise leads away from Him (Moroni 7). He emphasizes that true service must be rendered according to God’s parameters, not our own interpretations of righteousness.  Phil explains that Christ is the true Light entering the world (John 1), and that our ability to abide glory is tied to the law we choose to keep—celestial, terrestrial, or telestial. As the Father offers higher law, those who obey receive increased light that sanctifies and elevates them, granting spiritual gifts and preparing them for greater glory (D&C 88). Drawing from Lehi, Phil teaches that law, agency, and opposition are necessary for growth, accountability, and the need for a Savior (2 Nephi 2). He explains that God’s kingdoms remain veiled, so lesser realms are not consumed by greater glory (Moses 1), and that disobedience blocks the endowments governed by divine law.  Phil teaches that Christ owes us nothing and offers commandments so He may endow us with light and adopt us as His children (Mosiah 2). He explains that greater law brings greater accountability (D&C 82; Luke 12), that Satan seeks to diminish our light through disobedience (D&C 93), and that we are responsible for both the light we gain and the light we lose (2 Nephi 31; 1 Nephi 8). Those who refuse Christ’s name must be called by another, but the steadfast are sealed His (Mosiah 5). Phil also warns that inheritances of light can be lost through unfaithfulness.  He explains that perfected beings retain agency but do not rebel because they have fully overcome their flaws (2 Nephi 2; D&C 93). Mercy cannot rob justice, and repentance is the means by which mercy claims us (Alma 42). Phil describes the Holy Ghost as the divine system through which the Light of Christ descends through veils, allowing mankind to receive endowments of power and abide higher glory (D&C 88). Increased obedience brings increased light, leading to higher law and greater spiritual capacity.  Phil concludes by teaching that the plan of happiness endures because perfected beings choose obedience freely. As we seek greater covenant faithfulness, the Lord stands ready to fill us with light and prepare us to stand in His presence.  Come and learn the Doctrine of Christ.  TheRedemptionOfZion.org
