Not quite episode 154 of the Photography Explained Podcast

Not quite episode 154 of the Photography Explained Podcast

Hi. Rick here. If you were expecting to listen to episode 154 of the Photography Explained Podcast, How Do I Get The Correct Exposure Every Time? well so was I! But it’s not here is it, not yet anyway.
I have written the episode, and I have recorded the episode. But when I came to edit it this morning, the audio was, well quite frankly awful. Digitally bad awful that is, not me awful. So awful that I am going to have to rerecord it, but I need to fix the problem first.
So, as you listen to this, I am in the middle of a big clean-up of my computer before I record the episode again. Then I need to edit the shiny new version. If I have fixed the problem that is.
While you are waiting, if you have a 27 minute gap in your life, why not head over to the Photography Explained Podcast website and find something else to listen to! Or send me a question to answer in a future episode. And why not head over to rickmcevoyphotography.com where you can read all about me and photographing buildings. So much good stuff, what is not to love.
At some point soon this episode will magically appear in your podcast feed, so until then I will say thank you for bearing with me, take care and stay safe.
    Cheers from me Rick

What Is Exposure In Photography? (A Beginner's Guide)

What Is Exposure In Photography? (A Beginner's Guide)

Hi. I’m Rick, and yes, I am going to explain exposure in photography to you in plain English in less than 27 minute (ish) without the irrelevant details. Ok this is a two-parter. This is the what and the why episode. Next episode is the how episode.
This is the answery bit, which is as good a place as any to start.
Exposure in photography is the amount of light that reaches the camera sensor when taking a photo. A correctly exposed image has captured the range of light in a scene correctly. An underexposed photo is too dark, with information not recorded in the shadows. An overexposed image is too light, with information not recorded in the highlights.
That’s exposure in a nutshell, but there is lots more good stuff for you to listen to in this episode.

How My One Photo Rule Will Help You Take Better Photos

How My One Photo Rule Will Help You Take Better Photos

Hi and welcome to Episode 152 of the Photography Explained podcast. I’m your host Rick, and in each episode, I will try to explain one photographic thing to you in plain English, in less than 27 minutes (ish), without the irrelevant details. What I tell you is based on my lifetime of photographic experience. And not Google. Not in this episode.
First - here is the answery bit
Take one photo. When you are looking at something you want to photograph take one photo. Do not take loads of photos from different angles and viewpoints. Do not take hundreds of photos and try to find the good one when you get back home. Stop, think, look around, and take the best one photo that you can. And then move on.
Blimey, that sounds harsh, let me explain in the talky bit

    What's next?

How To Take The Best Photos That You Can Every Time

How To Take The Best Photos That You Can Every Time

Hi and welcome to Episode 151 of the Photography Explained podcast. I’m your host Rick, and in each episode, I will try to explain one photographic thing to you in plain English, in less than 27 minutes (ish), without the irrelevant details. What I tell you is based on my lifetime of photographic experience. And not Google. Not in this episode.

First - here is the answery bit

To take the best photos that you can, stop, slow down, look around and think about what you are photographing. Think about what you are including in a photo, think about what you are not including in a photo, think about how the elements of a photo relate, and think about the light. Then get your composition. Then get all that technical stuff sorted. And then take the photo.

They say the best advice is free, and this is just that. Free advice that will help you to take the best photos that you can every time. Everything I talk about in this episode costs nothing other than time. And thought.

Yes, a lot of what I am talking about here is all about plain old thinking.
