Pity

Jonah did not run because God was harsh. He ran because God was merciful.

In Jonah 4, Nineveh repents, God relents, and Jonah resents. The mercy Joel celebrated becomes the mercy Jonah cannot stand when it reaches his enemies.

From June 27th, we will ask: What happens when the compassion we love for ourselves reaches people we would rather condemn?
