From being bullied in school to facing opposition still today, Dee-1 has learned how to look beyond his fears and realize the importance of his mission. From labels to fans to fellow artists, Dee has found his place as a realist when it comes to the rap game, and his music reflects his love of God and humanity.

Hailing from New Orleans, Dee speaks on the hardships he faced while in college at LSU, such as friends getting involved in drugs, getting cut from the basketball team and losing his longtime girlfriend. Despite this adversity, he gets emotional when touching on his biggest Pivot, a moment that has evidently shaped him still today where he escaped being killed by seconds. Dee-1 knows firsthand the influence that murder music and the glorification of violence can have on society, and his lyrics provide an alternative message.

He addresses the scrutiny and backlash from hip hop’s bigger names of Meek, Rick Ross and shares how he’s not worried about the Joe Budden’s of the world criticizing his approach because his message his far bigger than his ego and money.

As rappers and fans continue to compare wealth, status and fame, Dee-1 preaches about the core of what makes us all human. So while rap stars may have words for the Louisiana native, he continues to make an impact his own way, by approaching the Goliaths with love.

By understanding that God had more planned for him, Dee has gone on to teach at a middle school, become a Louisiana governor appointee and even write a children’s book. His eleventh album is a testimony to his journey, titled “From the Hood to Harvard.”

The Harvard University Nasir Jones Hip-Hop fellow keeps it real with the Pivot crew during this episode, pointing to difficult conversations as a solution to the difficult problems in today’s world.

To tennis fans around the world, Nick Kyrgios is as unorthodox as they come. He is a trailblazer in a sport full of tradition, pushing the rules to the brink, wearing his emotions on his sleeve and stepping on the court with a flare never seen before yet his calm demeanor and laid back tone caught Ryan, Channing and Fred by surprise as they sat with him for a layered conversation of sports, limelight, family, mental health and surviving scrutiny.

Kyrgios' antics during matches are a sharp contrast from the chill man sitting across from the guys and an example of an athlete’s reputation in the media not truly representing who that person is. Growing up in Australia, Nick had a unique childhood, spending a decade training from age 10yrs old working towards his goal of becoming a tennis star. His work paid off, and Nick became one of two tennis players on tour to defeat Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on the first try. Nick shares how expectations were low and he surpassed people's thoughts giving him the reassurance that he didn't need others approval but just needed his own self respect and worth. Not only did he have historical wins on the court, but he did it his way, with trick shots that were unfamiliar at the time and a style not supported by the Tennis faithful.

Everything about quarterback Michael Vick’s game was electric. He was a human highlight-reel who made infamous plays in every game he was under center. And in 2003, he was named the cover athlete for Madden 2004. Little did EA Sports know that Vick’s legacy as a quarterback icon would face as many bumps as it did.

20 years later, Ryan, Channing and Fred sit down with legend Michael Vick to honor the anniversary of him being named to the Madden NFL cover.

Hailing from Virginia, Michael Vick always dreamt differently, thinking about a future of success from a young age. He tells the guys the difficulties of being a trailblazing quarterback at Virginia Tech, and about how being drafted to the Falcons was a blessing, even with its downsides.

Remaining close to home became detrimental for Vick, but the man who revolutionized the game had to reset himself during his time in jail. He tells a story of coach Tony Dungy’s sincere visit to him at a federal prison in Kansas, and how a meeting with Dungy, Andy Reid and Roger Goodell gave his career a second wind.

The 2010 Comeback Player of the Year truly reset his game, and life. Vick explains how he has become an animal welfare advocate while also holding football camps for kids. A young Michael Vick once had a goal of only being drafted to the NFL and he touches on how grateful he was to be named the Madden NFL 2004 cover athlete.

Ryan, Channing and Fred have played alongside and against some impactful athletes, but they talk about how Vick transcended the game with there being few comparable players ever.

The same kid who ran around the streets of Newport News, Virginia has been running around the screens of Madden users for over two decades, and despite his two-year absence from football, he will go down as one of football’s all-time stars.

Sometimes analysts need to separate the player from the person, and in this episode Ryan, Channing and Fred touch on how volatile perspectives of athletes can be.
In the previous podcast episode with Devin Hester on Tuesday, the guys discussed the importance of providing an environment for their guests to open up. By speaking on Devin’s courage and reflection, they mention how blessed they are to be trusted with the platform for athletes and entertainers to speak their truth. With an open and honest environment, Devin was able to touch on aspects of his journey that he has not been public about before.
Switching to trending headlines, Ryan references the importance of being an impartial football analyst who looks at the player instead of the person. With Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury, they understand how easy it is to dwell on the negatives of people and blaming injuries on karma, but what if things are going well? Who do we credit then?
Should the same theory apply when talking about positive impact off the field? Joshua Dobbs’ rise the past few weeks is an example of overcoming initial perceptions, which Ryan dealt with throughout his career as an undrafted player, always having to prove the doubters wrong. Fred loves the heart that Josh has been playing with even though multiple teams have given up on him before this. On the other end of the quarterback spectrum, although Channing is a mama’s boy, he dislikes the idea that Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is starting in NFL games and still living with his mom and doesn’t hold back his thoughts!!
The guys wrap up the episode talking the recent Draymond Green incident and the importance of fulfilling the enforcer role on his Warriors team but when is it too far or too much? Ryan and Fred have differing takes on this situation and share.
Whether it is Joshua Dobbs’ success story or the negative media light being shined on Draymond and Deshaun, Ryan, Channing and Fred know that these athletes are each under the microscope from the public. It’s a tough balance of Navigating the adversity while respecting public opinion but not living by it.

Most well known for his opening kick off touchdown return in Super Bowl XLI, Devin Hester carved a unique niche in football as a specialist who flew his way to the top of the history books. Hester played eight of his 11 NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears and is known as the most prolific return specialist in league history, he holds NFL records with 19 kick-return touchdowns, 14 punt-return TDs and 20 return touchdowns, which includes punts, kickoffs, missed field goals, fumbles and interceptions.

Growing up with turmoil and heartache as his father, who he never met until later in his childhood, battled an illness after being released from prison. In a difficult moment, Devin opens up sharing what the true cause of death was for his father after spending his life telling the world his dad passed away from cancer when in fact it wasn’t. The release of burden is heavy and the guys offer a sounding board.

One of the University of Miami’s standout players during his collegiate days, Devin talks about his choice of going to school there and the controversy surrounding his attendance and how his playing days shaped his career. Talking with Ryan, Channing and Fred, Devin names his top 5 NFL players with Hurricane roots.

Most thought, Hester would be a first ballot Hall of Famer, but Hester shares how he discovered he was the last one left off the golden list 2 years in a row but for him it’s no longer about the Hall of Fame it’s about the journey and never giving up after all the knock downs he had.

Don’t really like some of the people but great content

I don’t really like RC but they have put together a great show. Love some FT21. Glad they took high ground against Brandon Marshall. I would recommend no one listen to his podcast. This one has good talk good discussions and isn’t the same spoon fed junk on other sports talks.
