    The The Fire Service Doesn't Revolve Around You

    Somebody's probably going to get pissed off about this one. Good. Somewhere along the way, we've started confusing legitimate problems with personal preferences. We've convinced ourselves that if one person doesn't like something, the entire firehouse has to change to accommodate them. That's not how this works. In this episode, I'm talking about: 🔥 Why one firefighter doesn't get to define the culture of an entire shift 🔥 The difference between harassment and hurt feelings 🔥 Why dark humor, colorful language, and thick skin have always been part of firehouse life 🔥 The danger of recruiting warm bodies instead of capable firefighters 🔥 Why physical fitness, mental toughness, and accountability still matter 🔥 The importance of finding people who can do the job instead of lowering standards to fill seats Let me be crystal clear: We do not tolerate harassment. We do not tolerate racism. We do not tolerate sexism. But we're also not going to rebuild the entire fire service because one person doesn't like how firefighters talk, joke, or cope with the realities of this job. The fire service isn't a corporate office. It's a profession built on trust, sacrifice, grit, and the ability to rely on the person next to you when everything goes sideways.     We've got a leadership problem — and it's not just in politics.

    We keep electing people who wouldn't last a week in the real world, and then we wonder why nothing gets done. No accountability. No results. Just noise. And the same garbage shows up in the fire service. Leaders who say "follow the policy" but don't follow it themselves. Double standards. Weak accountability. Culture getting crushed. Enough. If you can't do your job — you shouldn't get paid. If you can't follow the rules — you shouldn't be in charge. If you're not training — you're not ready. 👉 Wake up. Pay attention. Demand better.     Politicians Don't Protect Us — They Exploit Us

    💥Let's get real. Firefighters, police, nurses — we're the ones protecting people while the politicians protect themselves. They tax our pensions, ignore our cancer risks, underpay us, and still have the nerve to call us heroes when it suits their agenda. It's time for them to get their shit together. ✅ Stop taxing firefighter pensions. ✅ Make it a felony to assault nurses. ✅ Protect volunteers like career firefighters. ✅ Modernize training so we can actually retain people. We took an oath to protect the public. Now it's time for our leaders to protect us. 👉 Speak up. Share this. Demand better. Do better. Suck less.     Stop Recruiting Warm Bodies — Start Recruiting Warriors

    💥 We've gotten soft. Somewhere along the line, we started begging people to join the fire service instead of challenging them to earn it. This job isn't for everyone — and it damn sure shouldn't be. If you're not willing to bleed a little, sacrifice sleep, and take the hits that come with this profession, don't bother applying. We don't need bodies in seats. We need firefighters with heart, pride, and grit. 👉 If you think you're good enough, prove it. 👉 If not, move aside for someone who is. Do better. Suck less.     I call out the wannabes and fast-trackers in the fire service. If you want that next set of bugles, you'd better master your current rank first. Remember—this career is supposed to be enjoyed, not just endured. Stop making emotional, knee-jerk decisions that wreck your credibility. Learn when to compromise without selling out your people.  I push firefighters to find real mentors, ditch the shortcuts, and step into leadership with grit, brains, and purpose. If you're serious about leading, this episode is your wake-up call.
