I’m going to start by saying this Podcast is a ten star adventure in a five star world. Kat and Charlene are a dream duo. Their banter is priceless! It includes history, family dynamics and heritage, living in a white hetero-centric world, and of course, the humor. There isn’t one episode I’ve listened to so far that hasn’t had a laugh out loud moment. Full disclosure, I am a part of Charlene’s family by marriage (one of her cousins). It was an experience meeting my husband’s family for the first time, at his grandmother’s time of passing no less. Coming from a Midwestern white country family into a mixed culture family can be an experience, to say the least, on both sides of the new relationship. And, it has been a great experience! Although I’m not officially a pocha(o?), I empathize with many of the things said as a gay white guy finding his place in the world. My experience is definitely not the same, but there are similarities to which I too can identify. What I enjoy the most is hearing the history of my husband’s family and the shared experiences when Charlene talks about her white husband at family gatherings and such. So far, since I’m listening starting from episode uno, I’d have to say my most favorite part had been when her husband had red chili with pork over mashed potatoes for this first time. In the Midwest we have gravy, but once I tried the red chili I’ve never gone back. This episode brought back some great memories of the gatherings at the houses of many relatives! If you want a feel good show, with some serious topics discussed in a deep but I informal way, this is the podcast for you, especially if you trying to make your way in a mixed culture relationship. Keep it up Kat and Charlene, and thank you for letting me fanboy all over when I got to be in the same room with the both of you, and finally meet Kat!
