Let's Clear Up the Confusion About Masculinity and Femininity

What exactly does it mean to be "masculine" or "feminine" in your marriage? There are so many conflicting and confusing ideas, even in the church, about what it means to “be a man” or “be a woman.” Some of them create unhealthy competition and unhelpful expectations.  Often, they leave men and women striving, performing, trying to prove themselves, or fit into a particular mold.  What if it's NOT about doing more of the “right” things? What if it starts with simply getting more in tune with who God created you to be in the first place? In this episode, we’re clearing up some of the confusion around masculinity and femininity and exploring what it looks like to live from God’s design. There's incredible freedom and power in being present, secure, and fully alive in the way God uniquely created us. It also creates so much health in our marriages. Here’s Why He Doesn’t Do What He Says He’s Going To Do

Why does a husband say he’ll do something, but then not follow through?  Over time, that pattern leaves a wife feeling like she has to carry everything, manage everything, and constantly remind her husband to step up. Eventually, disappointment can turn into frustration, criticism, and control. And on the other side, when a husband feels constantly criticized, corrected, or controlled, he may retreat even further, becoming more passive and taking less initiative. The more he steps back, the more she feels like she has to take over. So how do you actually break the cycle? In this episode, we talk about the deeper healing that needs to happen underneath the behaviors for both husband and wife, and how each can begin taking responsibility for their part in creating a healthier marriage. Are You Taking Care of Your Husband or Are You Raising Him?

No wife wants to believe she's raising her husband. No man wants to be "raised" managed or controlled.  Yet, sometimes a husband goes passive and checks out of responsibility at home, and a wife takes over. Maybe he's afraid to get it "wrong" or maybe, for her, control feels safer than trusting someone else to carry the load. In this unhealthy dynamic neither are experiencing the kind of marriage they actually want. We're not here to shame husbands or blame wives. There are often deeper wounds underneath the pattern: childhood experiences, disappointment, resentment, unmet needs, and years of doing marriage in a dysfunctional way. What looks like control on the surface may be rooted in fear. What looks like passivity may be rooted in shame, avoidance, or a deep belief that he can never get it "right". What does it take for a husband to step back into responsibility, presence, and leadership at home? What does it take for a wife to release control and trust her husband to carry what is his to carry? Marriage was never meant to be one spouse managing the other. It was meant to be a partnership where both people show up in healthy ways that create attraction and connection in the relationship. How to Become Allies Instead of Enemies

Is your spouse your enemy?  When there’s been years of hurt, disappointment, rejection, criticism, or unmet needs, it’s easy to start seeing your spouse through the lens of your pain. Their words feel threatening. Their reactions confirm the story you’ve been carrying. Soon you’re not just responding to your spouse. You’re responding to everything you believe they’ve done to you. In this episode, we’re talking about what it takes to move from enemies to allies. That means getting underneath the behaviors, understanding the stories and wounds shaping the way you see each other, and taking responsibility for your own healing. When you do that work, something changes. You stop fighting against each other and instead fighting for each other, creating a marriage where you’re on the same team again. 4 Things Your Wife Is Probably Afraid to Say to You

What if your wife's greatest need right now is just the freedom to finally tell you what’s been weighing on her heart?  Could it be that your wife has wanted to say something for years but kept quiet, because she’s not sure how you’ll respond? In this episode, we’re uncovering four important things she may be afraid to say to you.  Wives, this episode may help you put words to things you’ve struggled to express. Husbands, it may give you insight you didn't even know you needed.  A wife shouldn’t have to rehearse her words, brace herself for defensiveness, or wonder whether telling the truth will lead to an argument or a shutdown. Creating that kind of safety doesn’t mean agreeing with everything she says, but it means being the kind of man who can hear her heart and be curious instead of reactive.  Need some help? Our Story Part 1: 15 Years of Marriage Pain: Disconnection, Resentment, and Survival.

In this episode of Marriage Unmasked, we’re sharing our own story. Not the polished version or the highlight reel. The real story. For the first 15 years of our marriage, we experienced pain, disconnection, resentment, loneliness, misunderstanding, unhealthy patterns, and moments where we wondered if things would ever truly change. We talk honestly about some of the most painful seasons we faced, the unhealthy dynamics that kept us stuck, and the reality of what life looked like before healing began. Our hope is that as you listen, you’ll realize you’re not alone. Your struggles don’t mean your marriage is beyond hope. Often healing begins when you have the courage to tell the truth about your story and get the help you need. Next week in Part 2, we’ll walk through the healing process that changed everything, the lessons we learned, the work we had to do, and how God began restoring what felt impossible to repair. What Does "Your Body Belongs to Each Other" Even Mean?

What does it really mean when the Bible says your body does not belong to you alone, but also to your spouse? For a lot of couples, this passage has either been misunderstood, weaponized, or reduced down to obligation and duty. God’s heart for marriage was never about control, pressure, or one person using the other to meet their needs.  It’s about learning to really see each other, pursue each other, honor one another, and create a relationship where both husband and wife feel desired, valued, safe, and deeply connected. Here are some questions that help you reconnect over this instead of living in self-protection and disconnection: What is intimacy like for you emotionally? What helps you feel more safe, connected and desired? What shuts you down or closes you off, causing you to feel unsafe in this area? What wounds or fears might be affecting our connection in this? How can we move toward each other instead of putting up walls and going to self-protection? What would emotional and physical intimacy look like when it is loving and connecting? Need some help? Is It Time for a Separation?

Marriage can seem exhausting when there is constant tension, repeated hurt, and painful disconnection. It can leave you asking, is it time for a separation?  In this episode, we step into that space with you, without shame or pressure, and begin to unpack the deeper questions that need to be asked before making that kind of decision.  We also redefine what a healthy, purposeful separation can actually look like. It’s not punishment, or escape or a slow fade into disconnection. A separation can be healthy and helpful when it’s an intentional space for healing and deepening your relationship with God. Here are some helpful questions to ask if you are considering a separation: Am I trying to escape or am I trying to heal?It may seem like “We’ve tried it all” right now, but have we done the inner work that leads to transformation? Are we each willing to look at and work on ourselves individually instead of blaming the other?Have we invited wise counsel in? Have we received help from several different trusted sources outside the marriage? Is there emotional and physical safety in the relationship right now or not?Am I expecting my spouse to heal something in me that only God can truly heal? Are we making this decision out of a desire for peace or are we making it out of pain? What is God trying to heal right now? What is He trying to heal inside me? What is He trying to heal inside our relationship? And are we willing to let Him do it?Need some help?
