Episode 076 | Training in a time of COVID | Part 2 | Owner Operator Recurrent

What if you’re living the dream? Maybe you’ve got a plane of your own. Not much risk in that right? Or is there?
For those outside the industry, there’s always stuff getting made up about what goes on in private jets, and who knows, maybe some of it’s true, but for you all listening, we all know the reality is that having your own plane isn’t so much about frivolous luxury, but more about business. And enjoyment too of course, but in a time like this, it could also be about safety above all else. Because you’ve got the ability to get around, without much contact with the outside world.
But sometimes, and even with your own plane, you’re still going to be out in the world a bit. And for those who fly things that burn kerosene, yes even just for personal use, you’re going to have to go through recurrent training each year. And chances are, that’s in a sim center. Which is full of people.  in close proximity...
    So, what’s it like?
Well, luckily (for us at least), friends and show supporters Phil and Daniel just went through it. And they were happy to share their experience with what it was like to spend the week in Dallas. Something nobody really wants to do right about now.

075 | Airline new hire training in a time of COVID | Part 1

Today, former 2 time guest Bryan Juarez is back on the show to talk about how he was the last class to make it through training at his new airline, and what it was like to go through what’s already a tough enough process, even without SARS 2.0...

    Episode 074 | If it ain't Boeing | Part 5

At the risk of beating this dead horse beyond recognition, I just… It just keeps on going. It ain’t over yet, and of course, I’m talking about the 737 max saga.

But I can’t let you all go any longer without an update, and COVID or not, there’s a lot going on. And in one case, it might finally be time to shine.
Congrats to Seattle Times for a Pulitzer for Boeing coverage!

    073 | The Future | Imperium Jets | Airline Business Check-in

    073 | The Future | Imperium Jets | Airline Business Check-in

It’s been a minute since the last episode. And the last two have both been about COVID related topics, and I’m proud of them, and hopefully they’ve helped make a small difference in someone’s decision making. But the constant low lying threat out there, plus the fact that I’ve not been flying in months, coupled with the weird work schedule, and the lack of social connection with friends and family has really started to add up for me. And I’m sure for you too. But the thing that really seems to be at the center of it all is that eventually, I felt that I lost my creativity. The drive to make content, the drive to become a better pilot, and share what I know, and learn from others. And when that went, I felt down, and I needed to concentrate on getting the background stuff right again. And luckily, I found some stuff that really helped, and now I’m feeling a lot better. Full of cautious optimism if you will…

    The Dilemma with Chris Dunn

    The Dilemma with Chris Dunn

On a short break at work, I was scrolling through instagram, and I saw a post that really struck a chord with me. It was by aeroprollc. Which is the company of a great fan of the show, whom you’ve heard more than once reading the post show disclaimer like a seasoned radio pro. And it’s no surprise, since he’s no stranger to broadcasting… His name is Chris Dunn, and he’s known as “The Flying Weatherman” from Gulf Shores Alabama. He’s got a unique perspective on things, and I’ve been looking for a good time to get him on the show. And this is it!

071 | Staying Home with Dr. Eric Fine

071 | Staying Home with Dr. Eric Fine

Unpleasant as it is, that’s what we all need to be doing right now. Staying home. Social distancing, being careful. It’s the only way to slow and maybe even stop the spread of this terrible virus that it’s hard to predict how will affect a person.
So, in these scary, never seen before times, we’re all forced to reality check ourselves in a way we’ve probably never had to do before. And as we stay home (that’s what you’re doing right??) I want to give you some legitimate ways to stay connected, to stay informed, and to protect yourself as an aviator.
I’ve got a doctor here to give us some facts, and answer some gray area questions about Coronavirus and flying.

One of my top three aviation podcasts. Wide ranging topics, but always thoughtful and objective.
