This is an interesting podcast if you’re looking for something a little experimental, that seems to prioritize emotional expression over great writing and narrative. The people who make it or obviously very passionate and there is value in that. Unfortunately, I think some of the short stories would be better off if the author just worked on poetry to express themselves since it feels like their chief goal is self expression. I’m definitely a progressive, but I wonder if this pod puts too much weight on traditionally marginalized voices and stories to the point that it accepts pieces that are rambling musings of vague ideas, with long exposition about the vibes of the character’s experience before the audience can get invested and know anything about what the narrative is or why we care about the characters or the world.
Most of the stories start in the middle without clever explanations of who the characters are or where the story is happening-just jumping into atmospheric ‘vibes.’ The narrators also usually seem to use a kind of slow, soft voice that I personally find loses me and I realize I’ve missed the last 30 seconds of the story. I think maybe it’s designed for people that want a calming effect or a kind of bedtime story?
Had to Unfollow after a series of rambling, couldn’t-finish episodes, but they definitely get some unique stuff and will look back to see if it evolves.
