Episode 200 – Here There Be Ghosts *AND* Dragons

200 episodes ago, a group of guys got together to talk about anime every couple of weeks, record those discussions, and upload them to a small corner of the internet that seems to care what a group of would-be's think about all things anime. And 200 episodes later, we're still doing that, just with more refined takes and more realized viewpoints about the whole world at large. It's been quite a journey, and it's a journey we're still traversing through, for better or for worse, and we're glad that you're all here to share this journey with us. So, for the 200th installment, we've got plenty of Dragon Ball related things to talk about, from character popularity rankings and new project announcements, along with a new home for *THE* Ghost in the Shell coming later in the year, and plenty of kvetching about how much Crunchyroll continues to suck. It's funny to see that we've chronicled Crunchyroll's progress of enshittification all throughout this show's life. Here's hoping that in the future things start to turn for the better, for once. And here's to (maybe) 200 more shows to come. intro - happy 200, life is still difficult 10:07 - Dragon Ball popularity rankings, Genkidamatasuri announcements 59:21 - other news items (Amazon nabs The Ghost in the Shell, GKIDS gets cool things, Ninja Scroll 4K announced, more bad Crunchyroll things) 1:46:44 - home video releases (Captain Tsubasa, Monogatari) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

Episode 199 – Down Bad Denver Umas

There's no point in sugarcoating it, it's been a rotten cold weekend already, either due to the widespread ice storm or the more vicious "ICE" storm happening. Things are still tough and rough, all we can really do is watch over ourselves and our family and friends and neighbors so that we are all kept safe and warm from the tyranny of this brutal winter, in both senses of the word. And if this dumb show about anime and manga can make things a bit easier for you out there, then we'll call that a job well done. For said dumb show, we've got plenty to talk about from the industry over the past few weeks, from the crossover appeal of Uma Musume and American football taking shape to a pair of 80s mecha legacy titles gearing up for their new entries, as well as plenty of "fun with manga/LN synopses" runthroughs and a notable update for many Discotek Media titles thanks to... a CERTAIN retailer not playing ball anymore, it seems. We'll be back, hopefully soon, to talk all things "galactic" with Dragon Ball for episode 200. See you then. intro - dealing with the ICE cold outside 14:04 - news items (MAPPA x Netflix, Uma Musume, OSHI NO KO on HiDive, VOTOMS anniversary project, Shogakukan Manga Awards) 1:43:47 - BIG DISCOTEK UPDATE 1:45:21 - home video releases (Lupin III, The Boy and the Beast 4K, Gundam SEED Freedom 4K, Chainsaw Man) audio sources: KRDO-TV Denver - https://krdo.com/news/2026/01/16/meet-the-latest-denver-broncos-super-fans-anime-horse-girls/ Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

    Episode 198 – New Year’s Jump Dragon

2026 is here, and so far... not a great start to the year, for various reasons. Nevertheless, this show continues on to be an escape from those perils and horror and will continue to delivers the goods and the shenanigans that the anime industry as a whole delivers to all of us. And for the first show of the new year, we have a brief look back (no pun intended) on the top shows of last year before looking ahead at the upcoming series reveals and teases that Jump Festa delivered - as per usual, there was a lot on display, plus one notable series that got announced the week after Jump Festa. You already know the one. Here's to, somehow and someway, a better year this year and a year where this show gets back on a regular schedule and rotation. Fingers crossed. intro - burn last year and maybe this year too 8:46 - non Jump Festa news (IGN & ANN best anime lists, Anime Limited/TOHO, “season” talk, Steel Ball Run trailer) 1:19:07 - all the Jump Festa news (MHA, Chainsaw Man, Kindergarten Wars, Akane-banashi, Bleach TYBW) 2:10:09 - KYOANI IN THE BANK (RuriDragon) 2:17:09 - home video releases (Endless Waltz 4K, Dragonball Daima, Solo Leveling) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

    Episode 197 – Artificial Translation

It shouldn't need to be said, but it'll be said anyway - we're not fans of AI slop as a means to replace people and actual art, and that stance isn't going to change any time soon. Nor are we fans of prolonged enshittification resulting in a select few people getting wealthier while everyone else suffers for their greed. It's not the most festive mood, but it's a mood that's going to keep remaining true as we head into 2026 - after yelling about Crunchyroll and Amazon and the Warner Bros. sale mess along with plenty of other things worth yelling about. But at least there are some cool things to be found, like some... *interesting(?)* Gundam projects, some cool Golden Globes nominations, excellent films worth watching on some platforms, and burying the last pound of dirt onto the casket of Gainax once and for all. Happy Honda Days, Merry Chrysler, and a joyous Toyotathon to all. P.S. Andrew sat out this show for personal reasons so our "replacement Andrew" showed up - you all should know Sketch by now. We'll all be back for Jump Festa, so look out for that show. intro - life after My Hero Academia 4:53 - SCREAMING INTO THE VOID (re: WBD, Crunchyroll, Amazon) 30:27 - Oricon 2025 manga sales 38:44 - some news stuff (Gainax is perma-dead, Golden Globes, various Gundam and Code Geass things) 1:08:40 - home video releases (Demon Slayer 4K, Castlevania Nocturne, MARS) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

    Episode 196 – Lovesick

Back from an extended break (and a trip to Japan) with a shorter-than-usual show for the Thanksgiving week distractions we all could use more often than not, be it from family or football or parade waiting or anything else, and we've got a fine "distraction show" for you all here - some talk about the Chainsaw Man movie and the first Virgin Punk episode, Kodansha establishing a live-action production arm, The Apothecary Diaries coming back next year with a new season and a new movie, and remembering the man responsible for Toei's rebound, along with the usual bits you've all come to expect from this dog-and-pony show. Have a happy Thanksgiving and we'll see you back in December for... let's call it "at least" one more show before the year is over. intro - yet another intro 6:11 - Andrew’s Japan trip (and future nuptials) 22:04 - Chainsaw Man movie and Virgin Punk thoughts 39:00 - a small bit of news stuff (Kodansha Studios, Apothecary Diaries S3 and movie, RIP Tatsuya Nagamine) 1:08:22 - home video releases (Sentai, Crunchyroll, Discotek) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

    Episode 195 – Whipping Post

FAIR WARNING: we're all extensively bitchy on this show, this time, and for very good reason. Feel free to skip to the actual news items from NYCC and elsewhere if you don't want to hear us bitching and yelling about - specifically in this case - Crunchyroll and MAPPA and how they continue to make shortsighted mistakes and decisions within their companies that affect all of us on the outside, but it's recommended to listen to so that there's a clear piece of evidence for our continued and collective frustrations with the industry at large. But after that, there's plenty to get into, like how Crunchyroll... uh... snabbed and swiped Oshi no Ko away from Sentai... may as well add that to the bitching section, honestly, and also some curious anime projects being announced for 2026, the dub cast for Twisted-Wonderland, the incoming return of Dorohedoro at long last, the newest MHA x NBA partnership, and plenty more wild shenanigans afoot all in this show here. This is also the last show for Andrew for a bit as he will be on his "excursion arc" - aka, a planned vacation trip to Japan for 2 and a half weeks. Wish him and Steph safe travels for their vacation, they've earned it. intro - setting the tone early 7:24 - bitching about Crunchyroll and MAPPA 51:57 - NYCC recap (Trigun Stargaze, Crunchyroll swipes Oshi no Ko) 1:34:49 - other news (Frieren manga on hold, Dorohedoro returns, MARRIAGETOXIN announced, Twisted-Wonderland dub cast) 2:11:00 - home video releases (Perfect Blue 4K, Azumanga Daioh, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Oshi no Ko) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

    Episode 193 – Switcheroo ’25 (Anime NYC)

Right back at it again with another convention roundup show, the happenings and goings-on at Anime NYC brought about some pleasant treats, some fun in-person experiences, and even some good surprises - as per usual, of course. Convention season is starting to wind down for us, too, so after this and New York Comic-Con we'll be focused on our usual bits of shenaniganry to come - mainly on the movie front with Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, Angel's Egg, and Scarlet... you know, eventually. Movie Night comeback? Maybe. And to go along with all of that, we also take a gander at SANDA coming to Prime Video, we lay out the deal with SEKIRO, we wonder at the Naoki Urasawa manga BILLY BAT coming stateside and preparing ourselves for that wonderful world of madness, and we also ask ourselves one important question: what would a 1970s National Geographic special be like if it were an omegaverse manga? The answer will... probably not shock you. intro - the dichotomy of animation on Amazon 6:32 - Anime NYC: Jet’s in-person experience 15:34 - Anime NYC: the panels (Liar Game, Bryce Papenbrook joins DAN DA DAN) 1:18:14 - other news (SANDA to Amazon, Sekiro anime re-clarifications, Scarlet update, Billy Bat manga) 1:35:07 - home video releases (Sentai, Crunchyroll, Devilman Crybaby) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.
