Episode #11: Space is the Place

In this episode, Janine and I banter about volcanoes not on this planet. We talk to Dr. Jacob Richardson (NASA Goddard) about all things extraterrestrial when it comes to volcanoes, including Martian volcanism, just how big eruptions can get on other planets and moons, volcanoes of ice and the future for exploration of volcanics not on Earth. This is Part 6 of a special mini-series on Volcanology Basics for anyone to use during the Great Hiatus.

Episode #10: Heavy Weather (and Climate)

In this episode, Janine and I banter about how volcanoes can impact climate. We'll talk about what comes out of volcanoes during big volcanic eruption, the role of aerosols like sulfur dioxide have on the atmosphere. Then we tackle the impact of some large volcanic eruptions on global temperatures. We wrap up with why volcanoes are not the cause of current climate change. This is Part 5 of a special mini-series on Volcanology Basics for anyone to use during the Great Hiatus.

The science of volcanoes explained for the rest of us.

Full of the details of the science, personal stories from the field, and honest assessment of the risks (and low risk) realities of volcanoes. For both the science nerd and those w a casual interest. Strong recommendation.

Great listen!

I’m currently an undergraduate geology student and was introduced to the show by my professor for an assignment, but I liked it so much I kept listening! Super interesting look into not only the science of volcanos themselves but also the community that studies them.

Smiting the ludicrous, debunking the film flam, busting the myths

The Drs K deliver a wealth of science knowledge about volcanoes, how they affect other scientific disciplines, how they interact with the world around us, the danger we face and how to stay safe in their presence. They separate the wheat from the chaff in a way the layman can understand
