    Episode 20: The Thanksgiving Conspiracy

“Don’t say anything.” Probably not the smartest thing to write on a postcard. In this episode, Kara and Jessica investigate a seemingly wholesome Thanksgiving postcard mailed from New York in 1912. But on the back, Julia has a secret: she told the folks she’d be in “the W”—but deliberately left out where she was really going. And she wants her friend to keep quiet about it.  Naturally, the theories spiral from Wallingford to bathroom-window escapes, hotels, the Titanic and even an extremely unlikely rendezvous with Woodrow Wilson.  Jessica mixes up a dangerously drinkable Long Island Iced Tea, Tavern Mail from Richard brings an incredible collection of Titanic-related postal history, and the Cold Reads introduce a mysterious Newport fire, spectacularly impossible handwriting and a new character who may—or may not—be named TiVo Kirkin. Episode 19: Arthur Wants His Mom

A postcard mailed from Glasgow on Oct. 27, 1911, carries a simple and unexpectedly sweet request: Arthur would be very pleased if his mother could visit while Auntie goes into the hospital. Naturally, Kara and Jessica still have questions. Why is Arthur writing when Uncle has already reached out? What exactly does he mean by inviting his mother to “have a look around”? Did she make the trip—and how did Auntie fare?  Along the way, they explore the centuries-long construction of Glasgow Cathedral, meet St. Mungo, marvel at the arrival of London’s first public escalators and sample a deceptively potent Scottish Rusty Nail. Every postcard leaves behind a few clues… and a lot of unanswered questions. Subscribe for more postcard stories, history and questions. Episode 17: Scotch Fishers' Washing Day

What do Scottish fishwives, an unreadable postcard message, King Edward VII, and a Wild Berry Cosmo have in common? Apparently...quite a lot. This week, Kara and Jessica investigate a vintage postcard titled Scotch Fishers' Washing Day, featuring women washing clothes along a Scottish stream—an ordinary moment that somehow became a tourist souvenir. Along the way, they try to decipher a mysterious message from Jessie, wonder why she was in such a hurry, and ask the question that started it all: Who looked at women doing laundry and thought, "This would make a great postcard"? The episode also includes a fascinating history of Scotland's fishwives, a beautiful New Zealand stamp, a listener-assisted history rabbit hole, Tavern Mail featuring postcards from New Orleans, Australia, Hollywood, and the Spam Museum, plus another round of unpredictable Cold Reads. As always... Every postcard leaves behind a few clues... and a lot of unanswered questions. 📮 Have a vintage postcard with a mystery? We'd love to hear from you!
