The Ambulance Down in the Valley
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Nat usually draws attention away from the hazards, but today he gives two areas where understanding and focusing on the hazard are helpful, but you can still do it in a positive way. He also shares The Ambulance Down in the Valley, a poem written by Joseph Malins in 1895, which explores the relationship between prevention/mitigation and response.

Preparedness Works 17 - Preparedness As a Civic Responsibility
From the era of American Civil Defense to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, and basically nothing in between, before, or after, preparedness was recognized as a civic responsibility, but those times focused on specific threats for their day. Is individual preparedness, outside a structured government system, a benefit or detriment to society? You can guess my answer, but let's see if you agree (if you don't, then we should chat sometime on the show).

Preparedness Works Episode 16 - We Have No Idea What Is Going On - Prepare Accordingly
Preparedness is not based on fear. If someone is trying to scare you in order to prepare, they are probably selling you something. Don't let the fear cause you to react and do something you don't need to do and doesn't make you better prepared. Let's talk about the emergency management cycle (Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation), where the line is between preparedness and response, and why it matters

Customer Reviews
Good Information
It’s great info from someone who’s got a variety of experience and expertise with wilderness survival, the military, emergency management/rescue work, with a balanced and reasonable perspective. Advice and information is focused on a very practical approach to common disasters (personal and larger-scale). Great guests as well. No crazy conspiracy theories or zombie apocalypse fantasies, which I appreciate. My constructive criticism is that the sound balance & editing could use some work. It’s a little slow and pretty quiet, which means that even as a person with good hearing, and even at full volume, I struggle to understand the dialogue if I’m listening in the car or other environment with background noise. Editing to make the episodes more streamlined and concise, by cutting out the “umms” and repetition that are normal while monologuing but draw out the episode length unnecessarily.
Great show by a pro
I really like how down to earth this show is, excited to keep listening. The Preparedness Guy keeps making fun my knife choices :)
