Episode 18: Your Real Issue with Nepotism (+ The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo)

hello hello! if you're new here, hi! my name is genesis. and if you're not, hello old friend! today, i am talking about nepotism. it's a really passionate topic of discussion lately and I'm honestly befuddled as to why. regardless, it's a topic that i've been thinking about for a while now, especially since enduring some financial trauma. i think it's really easy to think of nepotism as bad and "self-made" as good or vice versa. i think it's really easy to think about this as a right or wrong issue, but it's a fully gray area. and i think it’s really easy to think about it as only beneficial when that’s not always the case. everyone's experience (or non-experience) with nepotism is different, but it's all ultimately about money. i think the shame around money leads to the lack of transparency around it and why it can, most of the time, be a really taboo topic. i'm throwing my hat into the analysis ring. this week, i'm also talking about nepotism through a book I just finished: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I briefly state my review, but it also prompts some conversation about the topic of nepotism in regards to Hollywood and the entertainment industry (which seems to be at the center of the discourse).  thank you for listening :) i'm happy you're here and i'm really grateful to be here too! Episode 17: Sure, They're Cute...But Are They Kind?

hello hellooo!! recently, i've been reflecting on hook-up culture and the future of monogamy. i feel like every fourth person is talking to me about someone they met on one of "the apps" whether that's Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, etc. And I think that there are some issues that we have to watch out for when body-based apps are how people are meeting people and putting themselves out there. Also! I think it's important we all remember that modern hook-up culture takes its roots in queer spaces, specifically the piers in New York City in the 70s and 80s. consent and safety are always topics to bring up when talking about sex whether we're having sex with our partner of 20 years in our bedroom or with a stranger in the bathroom of a club. can body centric apps be an avenue for sexual liberation? how is the prevalence of the "type" playing into all of this? i'm exploring all of this in this episode and i hope you enjoy. Safe Sex Is Hot Sex my friends!!  if you have any thoughts of your own, i'd love to hear them! here's my email: presentinggenesis@gmail.com thank you for being here! i'm grateful to be here too :) Spotify, Substack, Apple Podcasts, Anchor, TuneIn - all under Presenting...Genesis Links:  Audre Lorde's Sister Outsider The Queer Space Studies Initiative - New York Piers Archives Safe Sex Is Hot Sex - photographs by Steven Meisel for Red Hot Organization John Berger's Hold Everything Dear: Dispatches on Survival and Resistance

Episode 15: The Resurgence of Funk and Disco

Are you excited???? (Anxious, nervous, anticipatory??) Cause I am!!!  Hello and welcome to Presenting…Genesis and thank you for witnessing my presentation and my coming out of my whale mode. I am talking these week about a prediction that I have for this year and the coming years: The Resurgence of Funk and Disco. And I’m taking this prediction very seriously. I don’t throw around prediction like it’s nothing. This is a Prophecy. A Vision. I don’t get these sorts of global prophecies very often, but this is one I’ve been getting since last fall, so I’m sharing it. I talk about slavery and AIDS here for a hot minute because it’s inextricable from these two genres so warning for that. And also warning for any of you Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris fans, I absolutely body them. Omg remember when they dated and their music slowly got worse?? Gisele Bundchen and Azaelia Banks have their grip on witch culture. I don’t get obsessed with many things, but I’m really into that. ANYwho… I hope you enjoy. Tell me what you think. Episode 12: I Make These Things Called Mistakes.

hello hellooo. welcome to Presenting...Genesis where I present myself to you all and come out of my "whale mode" (or go further into it. who knows anymore.) i feel like it's really easy to come on the podcast and give advice and things to remember and anecdotes and what not and pretend like I have my shit together and that I know what I'm doing and that I'm in control. I am not. And this is me being very (too?) transparent about that fact.  i'm being vulnerable here and talking about how really one of things I excel at is making mistakes. I make them every day. whether they're innocuous errors or grievous lapses in judgement, i never know if and/or how they're going to affect me longterm. but there is ALWAYS a lesson to be learned from those mistakes. at least i think so.  i talk about drugs and NA/AA and Step 5 and eating disorders and family drama and almost car accidents and art and stealing and hard truths. if any of those things are something you cannot handle, then leave. take care of yourself. it's not offending me. come back to this when or if! you can.  thank you for being here!! i'm so grateful to be here too ☆ For help on body dysmorphia and eating disorders for you or that friend you have (that might actually be you. i've been that friend for myself plenty of times) -  7 Ways to Help Someone With Body Dysmorphia National Eating Disorders Assoc. They are consecutive and in that order for a reason. You don't have to "reinvent the wheel". (Thanks Bob!!) And this site has a number you can call to talk to specialists for free.  Step 5 (the topic that inspired this podcast)  The Killers - Hot Fuss (if you haven't heard it. i do NOT recommend listening while driving if you are one to get riled up by fun music as i am)
