EVA England launched "Putting the Driver First" in Parliament on 3 June 2026, backed by evidence from 2,400 drivers. The finding: the transition works but only for households with driveways, above-average incomes and reliable charging access. 40% of UK homes have no off-street parking. The report calls on ministers to act on public charging costs, second-hand EV access and home-charging barriers ahead of the government's upcoming public charging review. The Kia EV4 now costs £30,995 after the full £3,750 government grant making it £560 cheaper than the smaller EV3, which only qualifies for £1,500 under Band 2. The reason: the EV4 is built in Slovakia; the EV3 is built in South Korea. The UK Electric Car Grant factors in supply chain carbon emissions. Build location creates a £2,250 difference in the consumer's pocket. EV4 Long Range: 388 miles from £33,245.CROSS-PAVEMENT CHARGING POSTCODE LOTTERY. 42% of UK councils 56 of 134 surveyed in a Vauxhall FOI request will permit cross-pavement EV charging gullies by end of 2026. The other 58% have no confirmed scheme. Installation costs range from free (Stoke-on-Trent, Reading) to over £1,000 with no subsidy. Westminster, Hackney, Islington and Ealing have explicitly blocked them. From April 2026 all UK employers must payroll Benefits-in-Kind in real time - the annual P11D form is being replaced. For salary sacrifice EV drivers: BiK tax now appears on your monthly payslip rather than arriving as a year-end tax code adjustment. The savings are unchanged. EV BiK rate: 4% in 2026/27, rising to 9% by 2029/30 still under a third of the 25–37% rate for a comparable petrol car. Every £1 sacrificed costs 55–72p in take-home pay depending on tax bracket.ELECTRIC CAR GRANT JUNE 30TH DEADLINE. Several manufacturer grant contributions expire June 30th: Kia EV4 full £3,750 grant on orders by 30 June, Hyundai Inster £3,750 manufacturer contribution, Dacia Spring 0% APR plus £1,500 contribution. With the Zapmap weighted average at 54p/kWh on AC chargers and 79p/kWh on rapid DC, versus 25p/kWh at home on the Ofgem price cap, where does the extra money actually go? The biggest single chunk goes to HMRC: 20% VAT on public charging versus 5% on home charging — the "Pavement Tax" costing UK drivers without a driveway around £145 a year.     VinFast's $530M restructuring, the livestream model that sold 27,000 cars in 66 hours, used EV prices turning a corner, and UK public charging now at 79p/kWh. This week on Primetime EV Live, we go deep on one story. VinFast. The Vietnamese EV brand listed on the Nasdaq has just announced a $530 million restructuring. They're going asset-light, separating brand from manufacturing and rebuilding their European presence through dealer partnerships. The more interesting story is how they sold cars in the first place. In May 2024 they took 27,649 pre-orders for the VF 3 mini-SUV in 66 hours through nine livestream sessions on Vietnamese e-commerce platforms, with 15 influencers. The same way TikTok sells lipstick.     UK EV Charging Grants 2026 — £500, Who Qualifies, and What Just Closed

    UK EV charging grants changed significantly on 1 April 2026. The government increased the maximum OZEV grantfrom £350 to £500 per socket — covering up to 75% of installation costs for renters, flat owners, residential landlords, businesses, and properties without driveways. Five schemes are currently open. Three closed on 31 March. In this episode Danny covers every scheme in detail: who qualifies, how much you can claim, what the eligibility conditions are, and how to apply before the final yearwindow closes in March 2027. WHAT'S COVERED The Flats& Renters Grant Up to £500 for renters and flat owners with private off-street parking. New application platform from 1 April 2026. The Residential Landlord Grant Up to £500 per socket for residential landlords. Up to 200 grants per year across properties. The On-Street / Cross-Pavement Grant Up to £500 for households without driveways using an approved cross-pavement charging solution. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) Up to £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets across all sites. Open to businesses, charities and public sector organisations. Extended to March 2027 — described by OZEV as thefinal year. The Education / Schools Scheme Up to £2,000 per socket for state-funded schools and colleges. Note: this grant reduced from £2,500 on 1 April 2026 — the only scheme to go down, not up. What closed on 31 March 2026 The Staff & Fleets Grant, Commercial Landlord Grant and Landlord Infrastructure Grantall closed to new applications. Most online articles have not updated.
