    Problem Solving

    Here I analyze the following and how it pertains to being a leader and problem solving, because subordinates are going to come to you with problems, so how you handle that will define you as a leader. 1- Quote from Colin Powell “Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.” 2- The saying, "Come to me with a solution, not a problem." 3- Article from the Inc.com (https://www.inc.com/john-boitnott/6-problem-solving-skills-every-successful-entrepreneurs-must-cultivate.html) This is intended to show leaders how they respond to subordinates coming to them with problems dictates what kind of leader they are.

    Performance Development

    Discussion on why performance development is not only important to the individual, but to the development and growth of the organization. Analysis of quotes (from Jack Welch) and statistics with some stories of performance development I used in the past. Examples from my time as a platoon leader, Battle Captain while deployed to Afghanistan, and as a company commander in Hawaii. All focused on Performance Development to train the individual, key leaders and the unit to successfully grow self and perform as a top notch team.

    Using Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC) as a leader and to convince leaders

    A story that shows DMAIC works in the military and how veterans use this process that is translatable to the corporate world.   Podcast discuss on how to use the principles as a leader and to convince leaders to take action through conceptualization and statistical analysis. Story is about mortar attack occurring on a remote outpost that almost destroyed UH60 Blackhawk helicopters.  Luckily, a junior leader decided not be reactive, but used the DMAIC method to be proactive and prevent a potentially disastrous situation.
