Dr. Uzma Syed and I talk about her journey from witnessing a surgery as a child that illuminated the path she knew was right for her to her leadership as an infectious disease expert including navigating the pandemic, and all of the incredible initiatives she is a part of. Some of the wisdom Dr. Syed shares with us includes: - If you follow your passion, it's not going to seem like work to you. - How she trusted her gut and spoke up to try and help her health system prepare for the pandemic. - Stay focused on the task and ignore the background noise. - There will be a lot of naysayers, but find your voice and be comfortable enough to use it. - Don’t get so hung up on a timeline. - There will be a lot of lows, but there will be plenty of highs to celebrate and to be grateful for. - Be true to yourself. Build your network

Frank Dolan and I discuss the path he’s traversed from navigating difficult college decisions to thriving as a high-performing sales professional in the biopharmaceutical industry, and finally, to founding and leading Arsenal Advisors. Some of the wisdom Frank shares with us includes: Ask for help. Find energy givers, not energy takers. The energy or conviction of the audience can never be higher than that of the person in front of them. The four minute mile idea: decision making in leadership positions comes down to two forces, what information do we have and what time are we up against - how are AI and information access and going to affect that? Those who adopt and leverage validate information will realize a four minute mile while others are lagging behind. Networking will be the most underrated asset that you build professionally. Look for and seek out mentors. If you believe, you get a chance at making someone else believe - and the opposite is true. Never be afraid to bet on yourself. Spend more time thinking about what you want out of the next 10 years rather than just the next one year and it will make it easier to make today's decision. About Dr. Frank Dolan Frank is founder of Arsenal Life Science, a consulting firm he founded in 2018 and is a recognized thought leader in the life sciences and biotech industries. Frank has spent over twenty years in biopharmaceuticals serving in commercial leadership roles and leading companies through times of great transformation. At Takeda, Amylin, and Acadia Pharmaceuticals he was a founding member of the team that brought them from R&D-only into launch-ready commercial organizations. His 15 product launches include large market brands such as Lipitor to orphan drug portfolios. Frank’s strong record of increasing company value has resulted in company acquisitions of over $100 billion. https://arsenal-advisors.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/frankfdolan/

    Pivot and take the leap

Tiannia Barnes joins me to share the amazing journey she’s taken from growing up in the Mid-West interested in science and engineering, through college and working in management consulting and for major corporations, to following her passion and creating an incredible luxury footwear company in her name. Some of the wisdom Tiannia shares with us includes: Everybody has something that they really love - pursuing your passion and your purpose and operating from there is the best chance of success and happiness converging. Mentors matter, find them at every stage. Learn to trust your gut sooner and act on it. Finding the right people to work with is critical. Moving to quickly remove talent that's not a great fit is key to making progress and using resources efficiently. Write down your vision and see how you feel about it. See what the emotion is and if it lights you up you know you need to pursue it. About Tiannia Barnes Tianna is the CEO/Designer of her own luxury footwear company that has retail e-commerce partnerships with Amazon Fashion and the recently launched Empower Global, a marketplace for lifestyle, fashion and beauty curated and owned by Sean Combs (Diddy). Gentleness is power under control

Dr. Chris McNiven joins me to talk through his journey from working with religious organizations, as a therapist, in higher education, to his current role as a strategic consultant as founder and opportunity architect at Aspire. Some of the wisdom Chris shares with us includes: The power of informational interviews and asking the question: “Who else do you know that I should be talking to?” Step into the vulnerable and scary - that can’t be the thing that stops you. Courage means you have heart and you act with heart. Encourage: cœur is French for heart, to encourage means to put heart in others. We operate out of love or fear. I can feel so afraid and yet I can still have heart and choose to operate with love. One of the most important things along your journey is who you surround yourself with. Don’t waste your suffering. About Dr. Chris McNiven Chris is a futurist who is singularly focused on achieving good in the world. He creates opportunities for leaders and organizations to articulate and accomplish all they aspire to be. With a Master's degree in clinical psychology and a Doctorate of Organizational Leadership Chris is a sought-after thought-partner and coach who creates actionable solutions to complex organizational issues.
