    The Sermon on the Mount and the Kingdom of God (and a MAJOR Building Update!)

    On Wednesday, August 19th, Coastline went before the City of Torrance Planning Commission to gain a conditional use permit for the Madison Street Property. Praise God that it was approved! The story is wild, so Hunter and Shawn spend a good amount of time recapping what happened, give major updates, and also thank the Coastline Community for their support. Then, they talk about the Sermon on the Mount's practicality, some of the more challenging statements, the degree to which our faith should change, and X-Men! Hunter is on vacation next week, so we'll be off until September 3rd. But to be caught up for that episode, make sure you read Matthew 8-10 and Luke 9.     Treasuring Jesus Year Round

    Welcome to the New Testament! Michael joins Hunter to talk through the beginnings of Matthew and Luke. They discuss Mary's song and its Old Testament references, wrestling with inconsistencies in the Bible, following what Christ actually did, and what it means to store Jesus up in our heart. They ALSO talk about rare coins, Christmas songs, and song lyrics in books. Always a fun time.     Coastline Movie Club: The Truman Show

    WE COME TO THIS PLACE FOR MAGIC! (this place being theCoastline Covenant Podcast) Welcome to another MOVIE CLUB: a special series where Hunter and Nikki discuss movies both past and present from their faith perspectives. On this episode, they discuss the 1998 Jim Carrey film The Truman Show. They wonder if Truman is free, discuss whether Christof is the devil or God, and hypothesize about the first thing Truman did when he left Seahaven.  All this and discussions about the state of modern movies, Japanese reality television, Hunter’s emotional connection to the Truman Show, and how hard it is to get tickets for the Odyssey! We love doing these and hope you’re excited for acouple more over the next few months, but next week we are starting THE NEW TESTAMENT. If you want to be caught up (or start with us!) read Matthew 1-4 and Luke 1-2.

    New Things in the Old Testament

    Hunter welcomes Lloyd Gilbert on the podcast to talk about the ending of the Old Testament. They discuss God's language being time, slowness vs. silence, and the way that the story of the Old Testament gives us meaning. However, if you know Lloyd you know we'll talk about a lot wild things like ostriches, the Twilight Zone, Finding Nemo, and Lloyd's review of Maeve. Next week we're talking to Andrew Faris about what is to come in the New Testament, so be on the lookout for that!

    Hope on the Horizon

    Hunter and Garrick talk about HOPE. They define it, talk about hope in our culture, hope in the Bible, and the hope found in Ezekiel 36-37 and Isaiah 40-43.     Prophetic Justice: Hosea, Amos, Micah, and Isaiah

    WE. ARE. BACK.  After an unexpected delay, the Coastline Covenant Podcast is BACK with a MAJOR conversation about MINOR prophets. Hunter and Shawn talk about justice, the role of the prophet in the Old Testament and today, politics (!!), and healthy civic engagement. Allegedly, the reading for today Hosea, Amos, Micah, and Isaiah but they mostly use that as context for everything they discuss. Can’t overstate how awesome this conversation is. Clear Eyes.
