    S1 Episode 12 - Mum Again

    Mum returns for the long awaited follow up of the Podcast we did last year. Mum and I sit down for some cocktails and laugh over pivotal moments through childhood and high-school that have contributed to the way our relationship is now. We talk about the good / bad of the last year and the what it's been like working for myself, specifically around risk taking being self employed (naked on the Internet) and the decision to re-invest into myself to create another form of income. Laughter quickly turns into tears after showcasing something I've been working on behind the scenes, however the reaction didn't quite go as expected....     I sat down with Jabez Makawe the 'Mullay King' ( @Jabezmakawe) who owns his own Barber studio in Hawke's Bay. With a 50k+ following on TikTok, Jabez went viral for his signature 'Mullay' that started in 2018. Earlier this year Jabez gave me the opportunity to be on his podcast, the chat we had together was the catalyst for a series of changes & risks in my life that quickly turned into blessings. We discuss everything that's changed since the start of the year, what risks have paid off & what things we could learn to navigate differently. Jabez touches on his journey into barbering - how he deals with online haters, the steps he took to build his personal brand & also what happens when things don't go so well. It's crazy to look back at the Podcast we did back in March & see how much has changed in such a short period of time, I'll always be thankful to Bez for the opportunity.     Trigger warning: Eating Disorders I sit down for what turned into a candid chat with my mum, and neither of us knew what to expect. Besides me asking some highly inappropriate questions that no parent ever wants to be asked, I also wanted to openly discuss what it was like raising a teenager with an Eating Disorder. Mum and I discuss the impact that had/has on a family dynamic, navigating the emotions and trauma of teenage years, and what advice she would offer other families going through the same. My mother is an absolute queen, her understanding nature and outlook on life is inspiring and has heavily contributed to the values I hold today. It’s not every day you get to sit down and record a conversation with a parent, let alone one that turned into a therapy session! Your support, shares, views & listens mean the world. Enjoy!
