    Who Beer Is For

Proverbs Daily is a reader-supported publication. All posts are free, but all donations help spread the message. When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious…thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber.Proverbs 31:6“Give strong drink to him who is perishing, and wine to those who are bitter of heart.”Human beings have been brewing beer for thousands of years. Long before modern bars. Long before commercials. The ancient Sumerians even had a goddess of beer.Think about that. We’ve always had a way of making something sacred that helps us take the edge off. Then Proverbs 31:6 says something that almost sounds shocking:“Alcohol is for the dying, and wine for those in bitter distress.” (NLT)Wait… Did the Bible really just say that?Yes. But notice who it’s talking about. People who are perishing. People crushed by grief. People trying to escape unbearable pain. Now back up one verse. Lemuel’s mother tells the king, “Not you.”Because people are depending on your clarity. This isn’t really a conversation about beer. It’s a conversation about numbing. We’ve all got our drug of choice. For some it’s alcohol. For others it’s scrolling. Shopping. Working. Eating. Staying busy. Anything that helps us avoid feeling what we’re feeling.Because sometimes life leads us to a cave we don’t want to enter. A hard conversation. A painful memory. A frightening decision. And if we have to walk into that cave… we’d rather go in numb and just get through it.But Proverbs quietly asks, can you afford to lose your clarity right now?Not because your pain isn’t real. It is. Not because your heart doesn’t deserve compassion. It does. But because what waits on the other side of that cave is healing… and numbness never walks you there. The answer to a heavy heart isn’t pretending it doesn’t hurt. It’s refusing to face it alone.Grace doesn’t always remove the cave. Sometimes it simply takes your hand and walks in with you.🔥 REMEMBERNumbness postpones healing. Courage walks through the cave.🙏🏽 PRAYERLord, give me courage to feel what needs healing today.🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGENotice what you instinctively reach for when stress or sadness hits today. Before reaching for it, spend five quiet minutes talking honestly with God or a trusted friend about what you’re actually feeling.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer. Proverbs Daily is a reader-supported publication. All posts are free, but all donations help spread the message. When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious…thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber.Proverbs 30:3“I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One.”Do you know anybody like this? “Oh, I can’t really sing.” Then they grab the microphone… and absolutely tear the house down.Or the musician who says, “Man, I’m just playing around…” Then plays something so beautiful everybody in the room stops talking.I love people like that. Then there’s the opposite. The people who know… everything. No matter the subject. No matter the question. They already have the answer.See… the person with an answer for everything has quietly closed the book. Then we meet Agur. He opens Proverbs 30:3 by saying:“I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One.” (NLT)That’s funny… because what comes next is some of the deepest wisdom in the entire book. It’s almost like somebody saying, “I don’t really have much…” then stepping forward and tearing the roof off the mutha.Maybe that’s the point. The people most capable of learning are usually the ones least convinced they’ve arrived. And Agur isn’t only humble about human wisdom. He’s humble about having God figured out.Maybe he wasn’t confessing ignorance. Maybe he was protecting wonder.Because the moment we reduce God to something we’ve already mastered… we stop meeting God with new eyes. Now, I don’t believe we know nothing. Look at you. Your heart has been beating your entire life without asking permission. Your lungs know how to breathe. Your body knew how to weave itself together in your mother’s womb. There is ancient knowledge moving through you right now.The question isn’t whether you know anything. The question is whether you’re still open enough to recognize what life has been teaching you all along.Wonder isn’t the absence of knowledge. It’s the refusal to let knowledge become ordinary.Maybe wisdom begins each morning by saying, “Teach me something I couldn’t see yesterday.”🔥 REMEMBERCertainty closes the book. Wonder turns the page.🙏🏽 PRAYERLord, give me new eyes for what I already know.🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGEChoose one familiar thing today: your breath, your body, your work, your neighborhood, or someone you love. Spend two uninterrupted minutes observing it as though you’re encountering it for the first time. Divergent

Proverbs Daily is a reader-supported publication. All posts are free, but all donations help spread the message. When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious…thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber.Proverbs 29:27“The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.”Do you remember the Divergent movies? My kids loved them. So of course… we all ended up watching them together. The whole story revolved around one girl who didn’t fit into the system. She couldn’t be labeled. She couldn’t be controlled. She had become… Divergent. And that’s exactly what made her dangerous.Proverbs 29:27 reminds me of that story:“The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.” (NIV)Most of us read the first half and nod our heads. “Of course righteous people hate dishonesty.” “Ahhh… I just can’t stand folks being dishonest… it’s so ugly!” Makes sense. But then Solomon flips the camera. “The wicked detest the upright.” “Ughhh… I can’t stand folks being so goody-goody! You just get on my nerves!”Oh… So walking in integrity isn’t just something to admire. It’s something that’s going to offend somebody else? Now we’re getting somewhere. The Hebrew word here is to’evah. It means something utterly detestable. And Solomon uses the same word for both sides. These aren’t just two people with different opinions. These are two different ways of being human.Sometimes your integrity disturbs what someone else has learned to live with. Not because you’re trying to be difficult, but because your life quietly proves another way is possible. That’s why Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”The future belongs to people who keep growing toward love, truth, and integrity.Every evolution creates a divergence. So don’t mistake rejection for failure. The same world that couldn’t always handle Jesus won’t always know what to do with people becoming more like Him.Sometimes it simply means… you’ve outgrown the system.🔥 REMEMBERGrowth doesn’t just change you. It changes what you can no longer live with.🙏🏽 PRAYERLord, when truth makes me different, keep me growing anyway.🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGEThink of one conversation today where it’s easier to “fit in” than to be truthful or kind. Choose the higher road. Don’t announce it. Don’t preach it. Just quietly become the different person in the room.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer. Who's Holding the Money?

Proverbs Daily is a reader-supported publication. All posts are free, but all donations help spread the message. When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious…thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber.Proverbs 28:8“Income from charging high interest rates will end up in the pocket of someone who is kind to the poor.”Have you ever played Monopoly with somebody who took it… way too seriously? They’re buying every property. Collecting every dollar. Charging rent like they’re running Wall Street. Then somebody finally says, “Alright… game over.”And suddenly all the houses, all the hotels, all the money goes right back into the box.The game was never about who could keep it forever.Proverbs 28:8 says:“Income from charging high interest rates will end up in the pocket of someone who is kind to the poor.” (NLT)That sounds strange until you look under the hood. The Hebrew word for interest is neshek. It literally means… a bite. The picture isn’t a harmless accounting fee. It’s someone sinking their teeth into another person. You know it’s Shark Week, right?God’s law warned against making money by biting people already struggling. Today, we’ve built entire business models around it. The bite became a business. But grace is heaven’s antidote. The combined wealth of the world’s richest tech founders is measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars. We even call it gross net worth.Maybe that’s the perfect word. Not because wealth itself is gross, but because any system that keeps extracting from people who can barely breathe has forgotten what wealth is for.But here’s the surprise. The person doing all the gathering thinks they’re building a permanent kingdom. Proverbs says they’re actually gathering it for someone who is kind to the poor. They’re not the destination. They’re the transfer point. The money is only passing through their hands until mercy puts it to better use. That’s the story of Scripture. God is always moving creation toward restoration, balance, and healing.Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”Then Proverbs adds one more layer: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord.”There are two lending operations. One profits by taking. The other gives with grace. And God personally guarantees that investment. That’s why kindness isn’t just charity. It’s disruption.Every act of generosity declares to a world built on scarcity, “There is another way to be human.”🔥 REMEMBERThe hoarder may hold it, but grace determines where it lands.🙏🏽 PRAYERLord, make me trustworthy with whatever passes through my hands.🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGEMove one real resource toward someone today. Give, serve, encourage, or connect someone in need. Interrupt scarcity with one deliberate act of kindness.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer. A Neighbor Near

Proverbs Daily is a reader-supported publication. All posts are free, but all donations help spread the message. When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious…thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber.Proverbs 27:10“Never abandon a friend—either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.”Some relationships come with impressive titles. Brother. Sister. Family. Best friend. We can polish those titles until they shine so brightly that we stop asking whether the relationship itself is still working.Because a title can be exalted… and still not be available.Proverbs 27:10 says it plainly:“It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.” (NLT)That sounds almost disrespectful until life happens. The car won’t start. The pipe bursts. The grief hits at two in the morning. And suddenly, the person five minutes away may become more helpful than the person you have loved for fifty years. This is in no way an attack on family. It is wisdom about presence and proximity.Jesus once asked: “Who are my mother and my brothers?” Then He looked at the people around Him and said those who do the will of God were His brother, sister, and mother. That statement carries more weight when you remember that even His own brothers didn’t always believe in Him.Jesus knew what it was to have people who were physically close… but emotionally far away. And He also knew what it was to find family among people who stayed, listened, believed, and walked with Him.Maybe closeness is not only measured by blood or by land. Maybe it is measured by availability. By who answers when you call. Who notices your quiet pain. Who keeps showing up when it matters most.We can become so committed to the mythology of a relationship that we ignore the people actually standing beside us.Honor your family. Keep your old friends. But do not overlook the neighbor near enough to answer your cry.Sometimes God provides through the person already close.🔥 REMEMBERA title names the relationship. Presence proves it.🙏🏽 PRAYERLord, help me honor those who faithfully show up near.🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGEThink of one person who has consistently shown up for you. Call or text them today and tell them specifically what their presence has meant.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer. Rocket Love

Proverbs 26:1 (TPT)“It is totally out of place to promote and honor a fool, just like it’s out of place to have snow in the summer and rain at harvest time.”Today's Episode: Rocket LoveIt's the end of July.Which means if you live in Texas, you're asking one very serious question:What's hotter than July?Easy.August.We haven't even gotten there yet.But whenever I hear the phrase Hotter Than July, I don't think about the weather.I think about Stevie Wonder's classic 1980 album. One of my favorite songs on it is “Rocket Love.”I'll give you just a taste of Stevie's brilliant lyrics.in the Chorus he laments:You took me riding in your rocket, gave me a starBut at a half a mile from heaven you dropped me backDown to this cold, cold world...Stevie! Tell us the truth about how romance goes sometimes!I've always thought the best blues songs pull off a strange miracle. They sound so good...while they're making you feel something that hurts so bad.The groove makes you smile. The story breaks your heart. That's the blues.Stevie sings about a love that launched him into the heavens...only to leave him standing in a cold, cold world. That's irony. And Proverbs 26:1 gives us another picture of irony:“It is totally out of place to promote and honor a fool, just like it’s out of place to have snow in the summer and rain at harvest time.”I love that phrase:Totally out of place.Wisdom notices what doesn't belong.Snow...in summer.Rain...at harvest.Honor...without character.Sometimes life gives us a kind of Rocket Love.We get launched into places our character hasn't learned to live yet.The promotion comes before the preparation. The spotlight arrives before the substance. The altitude comes faster than the attitude can sustain...before the soul has learned how to breathe up there.God isn't trying to keep us from high places. He's preparing us to live there.Because honor isn't dangerous.Honor without formation is.So don't just pray for greater opportunities.Pray for deeper wisdom. Then when life lifts you higher...you'll have the character to stay there.REMEMBERDon't chase an altitude your character hasn't learned to breathe in yet.PRAYERLord, grow my character before You grow my influence and opportunities.TODAY'S CHALLENGEThink of one person already living at the altitude you're praying for. Reach out today and ask them one honest question about what it takes to stay there. Then listen. Get full access to Hey Fred Lynch! at heyfredlynch.substack.com/subscribe

    Weaponized Words

Proverbs 25:18"A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow."You've seen this scene in a hundred movies. The witness walks into the courtroom.Raises their right hand."Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?"We usually focus on the word truth. But lately, I've been thinking about the word witness.Because a witness has power.Somebody's reputation.Their livelihood.Their relationships.Maybe even their freedom can be sitting on the other side of your words. That's why Proverbs 25:18 hit me:"A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow." (KJV)First of all I picked the KJV on purpose just because of that word maul... what a word!"I shall maul you!" Gotta love the KJV!But also notice that Solomon doesn't say the false witness HAS a weapon. He says the false witness IS a weapon.A maul crushes up close.A sword cuts anything within reach. And an arrow? An arrow can wound somebody from a distance.Sometimes before they even know who fired it.But false witness isn't only standing in court and telling a bald-faced lie.Sometimes I can tell you exactly what happened…and still not tell you the whole story.I can leave out the part where I was wrong.I can exaggerate what somebody did to me.I can tell it from an angle that makes me the hero and guarantees you know who the villain is.And I've lived long enough to revisit some of my own stories.People I once saw only through the lens of how difficult they were…I can now appreciate for some of the difficult lessons they taught me.Maybe they pushed me deeper.Demanded more.Wouldn't let my charisma carry me where my character still needed to grow. That doesn't mean every painful thing becomes okay.It means maturity can change the narrator. And sometimes wisdom asks us to tell the story again…without the weapons.Because every story has a narrator. The question is:Is the narrator armed?REMEMBER: Don't weaponize a story just because you're holding the microphone.PRAYER: Lord, disarm my words and make my witness completely truthful.TODAY'S CHALLENGE: Think of one person you've made the villain in a story you tell. Tell the story once more today — this time with the whole truth in it. Get full access to Hey Fred Lynch! at heyfredlynch.substack.com/subscribe

    Stop Lurking

Proverbs 24:15“Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place.”Proverbs Daily is a reader-supported publication. All posts are free, but all donations help spread the message. When you see the word “upgrade,” you’re simply invited to help me make the sacred positively contagious...thank you in advance for becoming a free or paid subscriber. In May of 2000, Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent, was sitting in a car outside his grandmother’s house in Queens when a gunman approached.Nine shots. One hit him in the face.He survived.Three years later, the world heard him rapping about that experience in “Many Men.”I’ve heard that song a hundred times. But one detail stopped me.It didn’t happen at a club.It didn’t happen backstage. It happened at his grandmother’s house.A dwelling place.Listen to Proverbs 24:15:“Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place.” (NIV)Now notice who Solomon is talking to.Not the person inside. He doesn’t say:“Be afraid.”“Move.”“Build a taller fence.”He turns toward whoever is outside.Do not lurk.Solomon looks into the shadows and says:I see you.Now before you picture somebody hiding in bushes with a weapon…come closer. Most of us have never lurked outside somebody’s house. But we’ve lurked on somebody’s page.Watching.Scrolling.Somebody’s doing well.Their marriage looks happy.Their career is moving.Their ministry is growing. And something inside us is just…available.Waiting for the crash. We even call it lurking.I’m not here to scold you.Just notice it.Sometimes envy doesn’t attack. It watches.Sometimes jealousy doesn’t speak. It waits. But here’s what comforts me.The person inside the house doesn’t even have to know you’re there.Wisdom sees the shadows. And before the righteous person is told to be afraid, the lurker is told to leave.Maybe that’s God’s mercy working both directions.Protecting the house. And calling the lurker back into the light.Wait…There’s a bar in there somewhere.God’s mercies be working while these lurkers be lurking,Better step back before it’s closed curtains! What is this…Freestyle Friday?Anyway…Maybe mercy really does work like that.Guarding the house while still calling people out of the shadows.🔥 REMEMBERYou don’t have to fall for somebody else to rise.🙏🏽 PRAYERLord, guard our homes and keep me from the shadows.🎯 TODAY’S CHALLENGEThink of one person doing well whom you’ve quietly, maybe even secretly, expected to stumble. Reverse the lurk. Send them something kind today. Encourage them. Celebrate them. Bless the house instead of waiting for it to fall.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer.
