From Navy Brat to a "Roll" Model, Daniel Minx is Driven By Perseverance, Strength, & Living Large!

Daniel Minx’s story begins with a loss he would never fully understand, yet one that would forever shape his life. Before Daniel was even born, his father was tragically killed in a noncombat incident aboard his destroyer while stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Though he never had the opportunity to meet him, his father’s service and sacrifice became a quiet but powerful part of Daniel’s story. Life would test Daniel again in ways few could imagine. After suffering a devastating spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed, he was faced with a reality that could have easily defined and limited his future. But Daniel refused to let tragedy write his story. Instead, he chose resilience. With determination and grit, Daniel has built a life that reflects strength, independence, and joy. He drives on his own, travels the world, and embraces new experiences with the same excitement and curiosity as anyone else. While there are, of course, certain physical limitations he must navigate, Daniel continues to show that those boundaries do not define the fullness of his life. He lives boldly, refusing to be placed in a box, and proves every day that life can still be rich, adventurous, and meaningful. Whether he’s exploring new places or cheering on his favorite drivers in Formula 1, Daniel approaches life with passion and an unshakable spirit. His journey is not just one of overcoming hardship, it’s a reminder that even in the face of profound loss and life-altering challenges, it is still possible to build a life filled with purpose, independence, and joy. From Army Brat, to Global Media Executive, to Local News Champion: The Journey of Lincoln Millstein.

Lincoln Millstein is an accomplished news executive and a current member of the Stars and Stripes Publisher’s Advisory Board. The son of a Taiwanese mother and an American service member, he grew up as a military brat and learned English by reading Stars and Stripes while living in Taiwan. His upbringing instilled in him a lifelong passion for journalism and the role of a free press in democracy. Millstein’s distinguished media career spans both traditional and digital journalism. He served as Senior Vice President and Special Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer at The Hearst Corporation, a role he had held until 2018. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President and Deputy Group Head of Hearst Newspapers and also held the position of Senior Vice President of Digital Media. He played a pivotal role in guiding Hearst’s transformation into the digital age. Before joining Hearst, Millstein served as Executive Vice President of New York Times Digital, where he oversaw the digital platforms for The New York Times(NYTimes.com) and The Boston Globe(Boston.com). He was instrumental in the founding of Boston.com in 1995 and served as its first general manager. In 2000, he was named Chief Operating Officer of New York Times Digital. His transition to digital leadership began in 1994 when he left a 25-year newsroom career to spearhead The Boston Globe's digital strategy, which culminated in the launch of the highly acclaimed Boston.com. In recent years, Millstein has returned to his roots in community journalism, transitioning from national media leadership to hyperlocal reporting. His deep belief in the power of local news to strengthen civic engagement continues to drive his work today.
