"Mike on Starting the Year as a Process"

It's punk rock reflection time again!

On this Punk Rock Reflection Episode, Mike discusses what he took away from his "admin week" that just took place to kick start the school year. A phrase stuck with him during the week that "starting the school year is a process." No one has all the answers right now about this school year and that is okay. We can't expect to have all the answers for all the possibilities that this year brings up.

So whether you are starting the year remotely, hybrid, or in person...remember you're not going to have it all figured out on day one and that's okay. This is a process.

It's punk rock reflection time again!

On this Punk Rock Reflection Episode, Josh talks about how starting year 15 feels a lot like starting year 1 as an educator. The unknowns of the school year, the last minute shifts and changes, the challenge of figuring it out how to do it all again in a different way is making him feel a little like a brand new teacher.

So if this is your first year in the classroom, you're not alone. We are all doing this for the first time.

Punk Rock Collaboration 05 with Mat Becker

Punk Rock Collaboration 05 with Mat Becker

One of the awesome things we would see in punk is at shows when musicians from different bands would join forces on stage or when one of your favorite punk singers would lend their growl to some gang vocals on another band's record.

We wanted to create that same thing here at PRC.

For this Punk Rock Collaboration, Mike sits down to chat with Mat Becker, a band teacher in Lansing, IL. Mat is an award winning band director and aspiring school administrator. Mat shares how the COVID pandemic shifted his approach to directing students, how his strong relationships with them and their families helped them through the end of the school year, and how Mat will use what he learned during the spring in the upcoming school year.

So get ready to pick it up, pick it up with this former Ska musician turned band director!

Episode 20 - Between The Shows

Episode twenty of the Punk Rock Classrooms Podcast!

    "Between the Shows"

Between shows bands had to get to work. Being on stage wasn't the only part of punk rock. Getting the flyers together, recording, and getting your set list just right were all part of the process.

The same is true for educators. The school day, the class period, or the school year (aka the show) isn't the only part of the job. On this episode Mike and Josh talk about what they do between school years, days, and even between periods to get ready for the next show. The focus on reflecting, planning, recharging, and learning.

Grab your set list...its time to practice!

"Josh on educator voices in making change"

It's punk rock reflection time again!

On this Punk Rock Reflection Episode, Josh talks about how bringing educator voices into the room is important in making change in schools. He discusses his recent work with teachers in his own district around the plans to reopen schools.

As educators we need to make sure we are heard. We need to stand up, speak out, and make a space for ourselves at the table where the decisions are being made.

Punk rock girl

You had me at the Black Flag pencil logo! Education pods and sites can tend to be a little....uh lame...dry...nerdy? This podcast is NOT that. Hip, cool and, most importantly, genuine and inspiring are the words that come to mind. Keep it up. Love a 50 year old punk chick. :)

Love this show.

The hosts are great and take an awesome approach to education. Glad I found it when I did. The energy and positivity are like a shot in the arm during the month of March.
