Spiritual Practice of Submission

Each month, we engage in a different spiritual practice as a part of our community rhythms. These spiritual practices are an invitation to deepen our life with God and to share our journeys with one another. The first Sunday of the month features a message focused on our spiritual practice. God Hears and Responds | Sunday Message

When God hears God responds… On Sunday, we are exploring the heart of our faith in a new series called First Things First. Our key passage from scripture is from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 that begins with the word translated as “hear.” One of the first names that is given to God is “The God who Hears.” It was given by two women who cried out to God and they were met by God’s attentive ear and God’s care for them. This word implies attentive and responsive listening. God does not just hear us, God listens and responds with the wisdom of a loving parent. Cry out, speak up, shout, whisper, invite God today to listen to your heart. First Things First | Sunday Message

We began the new year by turning our attention to first things first. C.S. Lewis wrote in a letter in 1951 “Put first things first and we get second things thrown in: put second things first & we lose both first and second things.” Jesus modeled this principle by directing our attention again and again to the heart of God’s vision for us - “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment…” How can we turn our attention to first things first and not become distracted or entangled by things of secondary importance?
