Quasar with Fries EP12: Are we better off without the internet?

In this episode of Quasar with Fries, Rich and Wayne dive into the existential crisis that is our digital reality. Is AI a net positive or a net negative? What does it mean when you fill social media networks with AI? How does that impact the currently toxic incentives social media platforms entice content creators with? The guys discuss the latest AI news including the mysterious DeepSeek large language model (LLM) and how it is threatening to pop the AI bubble. Plus, they discuss Meta’s plans to deploy AI profiles to its platforms. The boys also discuss the current status of the “TikTok” ban in the U.S. and how the service and platforms like it have changed what it means to be a “creative.” In many cases these incentives blur the lines between art and audience. How are we coping with that? And would we be better off if the internet just went away? This is a big one. Quasar with Fries EP8: The Ricoh GR III is a Bag of Hot Cheetos

In this episode of Quasar With Fries, two cameras enter, one camera leaves. Not really, but that got your attention, right? Anyway, what really happens is Wayne and Rich have an in-depth discussion that really centers around the axiom “the best camera is the one you have with you.” These days, we are absolutely spoiled when it comes to tools for taking photos and videos. The thing is “taking a photo” means one thing to one person and it could mean something entirely different to another. When one person takes a photo they might prioritize convenience or ease of use. Meanwhile, another person might prioritize control over the look of the photo or having buttons and dials to hone that control in to the fullest. So, Rich and Wayne specifically discuss the new iPhone 16 Pro and Wayne’s experience with both that phone and the Ricoh GR III, a delightful, pocket camera that makes taking incredible photos very easy. Because, to be honest, even with the new iPhone’s Camera Control button and new software features like Photographic Styles, if you’re serious about taking photos, the iPhone can be a real letdown in many situations. That’s not to say it’s not a great and very capable camera! But in many situations it’s very…fiddly. So, what’s the “right” camera to have? That’s what this episode is all about! Get into it. 00:00:00 Welcome to Quasar with Fries Episode 8! 00:04:15 Fan mail or mustaches? Discuss. 00:05:30 Point-and-shoot cameras are alive and well. 00:12:30 100 years of color science. 00:15:30 Nothing replaces old film photos 00:17:43 Film camera vs. iPhone 00:28:30 Get yourself a point-and-shoot NOW 00:33:00 The warmth of photos from real cameras 00:36:50 Ricoh GR III photo samples 00:41:00 The Fujifilm X-M5 00:49:45 Real cameras are like Hot Cheetos 00:52:20 Wrap up!
