    Episode 4 - In & Out (1997)

    August's episode is posting on September 1st because.... the editor never actually hit the 'save' button. (C'est la vie, and after all, we do it for free.) August's pick was the 1997 comedy In & Out, starring Kevin Kline, Joan Cusack, Tom Selleck, Debbie Reynolds, Wilford Brimley, and a surprisingly stacked cast of other recognizable faces, directed by Frank Oz. Does it age well? For the most part, and it does ultimately handle the subject of a accidentally-forced-outing-meets-later-in-life-eureka-moment in a very close-knit small town with a realistically kind tone, though it does also go into the main character's entire community coming to terms with their own previously-unexamined ingrained homophobia. We got around to picking September's feature in-episode, Iona shares thoughts on Clozee's set at Elements, and we are also linking some GoFundMes for folks who are still living through the after-effects of the 2-week blackout that Gary, Indiana just suffered after a massive and truly devastating tornado.     Episode 3 - Bottoms (2023)

    Mercury Retrograde truly almost kneecapped us at every single step of the process this month, but July's review is finally here. The comedy break was so, so worth it, and was the laugh we both needed. We really had no idea where this was going as we were watching, but we both agree: this is possibly some of the choicest actual-camp we've seen in YEARS. No major trigger warnings this episode, but light spoilers for.... several movies that would themselves count as spoilers.     Episode 2 - Velvet Goldmine (1998) / Girl, Interrupted (1999)

    An episode nearly as nonlinear as both of the movies we sat down for this month! On one hand, a mostly-fictionalized glam rock fever dream of lives lived truly out loud and in the open styled somewhere between Citizen Kane and Bob Fosse that cannot be passively watched if you want the whole plot, and on the other, a profoundly sad movie featuring a few truly blink-and-you'd-miss-it moments that nonetheless end up tying the whole thing together.  [Please be warned that while we did our best to talk about the subjects tactfully, it would be difficult to avoid discussing the fact that these movies do both involve descriptions (and some implied depictions) of sexual assault and other forms of abuse. We also personally do not believe in words like 'unalive'.  We also know the audio quality is kinda rough on this one. The recording software crashed immediately after we finished talking, and there was only so much cleanup that could be done to the audio we ripped from the video.  Finally, Eli wants acknowledge that he misspoke at various points about the year Velvet Goldmine was made, the year Dog Day Afternoon was made, and the setting of scene in 'Velvet Goldmine' where the old queens were speaking Polari, but he'd rather just say so than try to go fix it in post.]   find us on instagram and youtube, both @queer_reviewed

    Episode 1 - Bound (1996)
