Queer Theology

I’m a queer catholic teen that has always been in very queerphobic, religious communities. I find my group within it but it’s hard. This podcast has helped a lot with my confidence in my identity, especially from a faithful standpoint. I’m even going to use this for my Bible study I have with my friends as a way to help us accept ourselves as a community, making the weight lighter with more hands.

I wanted to love this podcast so much. The idea is great and when I found it, I thought this was exactly what I needed as someone trying to figure out my spiritual identity, listening to people approaching theology from a queer-centric lens. But the problem is that so many of the episodes barely start to get into the topic at hand before they then go “for the rest, sign up for X or Y class!” It’s like, to get the full message, you have to pay money. And look, I get it—times are hard and everyone deserves to be paid for their labor. And there are things a class can do that a podcast can’t. I get it. But then I imagine the idea of Jesus hiding teachings behind a paywall and it really skeeves me out. And as someone who just doesn’t have the resources at the moment to spend money on this, it makes the whole thing feel inaccessible to me (or at least like a big tease). So my journey continues. I’m sorry to the hosts but I believe in radical honesty and this is honestly how listening to the podcast often makes me feel, like it’s not for me unless I have money.

For queer people of faith, life can be super alienating. These guys have done a brilliant job to help us find space to exist on the planet. We are loved. There is a way. Don’t believe the hate !!!
