On March 31st every year, we honor Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender and non-binary people. We shine light on some trans historical figures, the significance + history of TDOV, and give shout outs to a few folx we follow and are learning from. We are so grateful for content creators, especially during the pandemic when we were coming into our identities. Since the world was sheltering in place, it was difficult to meet and connect with queer folx to fully explore our newly-discovered selves. We didn’t even have each other to lean on because we didn’t know this part about each other. We both turned to the internet for our exploration and came across these incredible content creators who truly helped and guided us on our individual journeys. Much as a stereotype may have truth to it, it’s not the whole story. We dive into an article written by Camryn Mahnken, titled “A History of Queer Fashion: How the LGBTQ+ Community Uses Fashion as a Signal '' and talk about our own individual styles as we were stepping into our identities. Whether you agree with stereotypes or not, a takeaway we agreed with from the article is that, “fashion is a way of communicating, without even speaking.”

We never intended to record this episode, but Mary was super fired up after listening in on a twitter space that was discussing homosexuality in Uganda. In the past couple of months, there has been a lot of misinformation and disinformation by the religious leaders and political leaders about the queer community fueled heavily by the media.
