    After a long hiatus, Radio SGN is back once again with a brand new season and first episode for 2026! In this episode, SGN Managing Editor Madison Jones sat down with transgender woman candidate for the 37th WA state-level congressional district Jaelynn Scott. Madison asked Scott about her campaign's policy platform as well as her work being Executive Director of local non-profit Lavender Rights Project.     Radio SGN Special Episode: Interview with Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell

    In preparation for the upcoming Nov. 4th elections, SGN Editors Calvin Jay Emerson and Madison Jones interviewed over video call Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell as he seeks re-election for a second term in office. Seeking to delve deeper into the experiences and decisions that have informed the mayor's approach to life and governance throughout his career, from being an attorney in Omaha, NE to taking on Seattle's top executive spot in 2022, the SGN took a more non-traditional line of questioning going through a plethora of topics with Seattle's mayor spanning from his high school football days, to his thoughts on whether he has genuine progressive bona fides in this race. Since recording and uploading this interview, the SGN has already announced that it will be endorsing Harrell's opponent, Katie Wilson, in the upcoming Nov. 4th election.     Welcome to the third episode of: SGN Out Loud! A new podcast series where staff at the Seattle Gay News do weekly deep dives into the topics and issues that most greatly impact our LGBTQIA+ community.In this week's episode, Managing Editor Madison Jones has a conversation with Executive Director of African Human Rights Coalition Melanie Nathan. Melanie is a Queer, South African–born human rights lawyer with over two decades of on-the-ground experience advocating for the rights of LGBTQIA+ Africans. In this discussion, Melanie sheds light on the deep ties Watoto Child Care Ministries in Uganda has had with the "Kill the Gays" laws of that country, and the current struggles LGBTQIA+ Africans are facing due to the Trump administration cutting funding to USAID. Watoto is a religious organization based in Uganda, founded in 1984 by Gary Skinner, an evangelical missionary born in Zimbabwe and raised in Canada, and his spouse Marylin.
