    🎪 UNDER THE BIG TOP: DRUMMING TO A DIFFERENT BEAT! 🥁 This week under the Big Top, we are shining the spotlight on one of our drummer buds who always drummed to a DIFFERENT beat! Enter the incredibly cool Show Band, Tapestry! 🕺 We’re talking about our drummer pal Rick Kern (who also crushed the vocals), Danny Evans bringing the heat on guitar and vocals, and Curt Hespe locking it down on keyboard and vocals. 🎹🎸 The thing that REALLY set Tapestry apart? They could SING. Like, really sing! 🎤 They were making major moves, even dancing around with the legendary Dick Clark, who was trying to package them with Captain & Tennille on their Summer TV Special alongside Neil Diamond! 🤯 Unfortunately, it didn't get picked up, but they hit the road HARD and played plenty of massive gigs in Las Vegas. Very different, and VERY cool! 🎲🔥 🎶 A VOCAL MASTERCLASS: We’ve got plenty of killer rock singing lined up for you today!     🚛 BREAKER, BREAKER 19! THE CB DOCTOR IS IN THE HOUSE! 📻 Anybody remember CB radios?! Back in the day, I ran a store for truckers down in El Paso for Petro Truck Stops. 🌵 Those cabs were the ultimate source of communication, and sayings like "Breaker Breaker 19, it’s the Regal Beagle!" rang out all over the fuel islands and the parking lot. Let me tell you, that truck stop parking lot was like the WILD WEST—a complete city unto itself! 🤠🏜️ 🩺 THE CB DOCTOR: I knew absolutely NOTHING about CBs when I took over the store, so I called in a massive favor from my buddy Neil Waxman, commander of Coronado CB. The massive roadside sign was highly valuable real estate, and I got the OK to use it on Saturdays. We threw up a message that said: "THE CB DOCTOR IS IN THE HOUSE!" We had a line out the door! 🤯 Neil sold a TON of CBs, and we drove plenty of business right into the store. HUGE shout out to Neil—he totally SAVED MY BACON! 🥓🙌 🕊️ REMEMBERING A LEGEND: I was actually thinking about the great John Denver today as I played Take Me Home, Country Roads. It is hard to believe it will be 30 YEARS next October since we lost him when his experimental plane crashed less than 100 yards from shore. What a legacy he left behind. ✈️🏔️ 🎸 THIS WEEK'S KILLER LINEUP: We have a REALLY good mixture of the new and the old this week!     Headline: 🥁 RANDOM MUSINGS, ROCK 'N' ROLL DREAMS, & MASSIVE MILESTONES! 🎸 As I was listening back to the show, I started taking some random notes. A lot of my rock n' roll musician pals and bandmates were inspired by huge bands or individual artists. MY inspiration? Ricky Nelson on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet! 📺 At the end of the show, Ricky would sing and ALWAYS had girls at his feet... I wanted THAT! 😂 Funny thing though—I didn’t want to play guitar. I wanted to play DRUMS! 🥁 🤯 The Ty Grimes Connection: Cool sidebar: My lifelong friend Ty Grimes started playing before me, and he played drums his whole life with some of the absolute BEST. The ultimate irony? He actually played for TWO YEARS with Ricky Nelson! When he first told me, my jaw hit the floor. I just couldn't believe it! So on this week's show, we have Ricky covering the famous Bobby Darin track Dream Lover, and Ty gives us a killer soundbite explaining exactly how it happened! 🎙️ 🎶 The Hit List & Trivia: The Teddy Bears: Did you know To Know Him Is to Love Him took exactly 20 MINUTES to record and only cost $75 bucks?! 💸 It rocketed straight to #1 in 1958, stayed there for three weeks, and sold well over a MILLION records! 🥇The McCoys: More musings... we are spinning I Got to Go Back (And Watch That Little Girl Dance)! It is easily one of my favorite, most vibe-heavy tracks of all time. I can FEEL it! 🔥Def Leppard: How about Bringin' On the Heartbreak?     🎪 STEP RIGHT UP: SWINGIN' SWEETHEARTS & BIG SHOUTOUTS! 🎺 Under the big top this week, we are throwing it WAY back to the golden era of 1937-1949! 🕰️ Get ready to meet the International Sweethearts of Rhythm—a racially mixed, SIXTEEN-piece, all-women Swing orchestra! 🎷 The word 'International' stood for their incredibly diverse makeup, featuring African American, Latin, Asian, Jewish, Hawaiian, White, and Native American musicians. WOW! 🤯 They were a FORMIDABLE force against the all-male bands of the day. These ladies completely SHATTERED box office records on tour across Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Miami, and even played for a massive crowd of 11,000 in Kansas City! 🏟️ Sadly, they never got the media love they deserved back then, and it took 50 YEARS for them to be truly appreciated. But let me tell you, they could play swing jazz like nobody else!     🤯 9 YEARS OF RADIO WILDER: FROM A SIMPLE IDEA TO 10,000 HOURS! 📻✨ Checking out the music for this week’s show, I was struck by The Yardbirds' track Happenings Ten Years Time Ago. It really got me thinking... ten years ago, I hadn’t even seriously considered creating an audio leave-behind for my daughter! Fast forward to today, and as we approach our massive 9th Anniversary on September 24th, it is truly HARD TO BELIEVE what this journey has become! 🎉 📻 THE ORIGIN STORY: Fun fact: I originally wanted the name ‘Wilder Radio’, but it wasn’t available. So, we launched as Radio Wilder—and today, I wouldn’t change it for the world! 🌍 The original goal was maybe 6 to 8 hours of audio, splitting the playlist between my favorite songs and hers. The reality? We now have between 9,000 to 10,000 HOURS recorded! 🤯 About 75% of those tracks are mine, and the rest come directly from YOU GUYS, our incredible listeners! That is SO COOL! 🙌 🌍 A WORLDWIDE FAMILY: Because of this show, I now have friends all over the globe and have even been invited to stay at the home of one of our absolute favorite bands!
