    I Was Waiting for an Instrument to Make My Decision

    You can fix the exit criteria, wire the alarm to the right variable, and still never leave. The scaffolding you built to survive the state was designed to pay down the exact pain the criteria were watching for, so no passive signal survives a new contract landing on your laptop. The close of this three episode arc is not a better gauge. It is an inversion: the pivot gets the first claim on the week, and the scaffolding has to justify its way in as an explicit call.     You Wrote the Exit Criteria. You Never Aimed at Them.

    You can write the exit criteria down, keep them current, and still never move. Not because the number is wrong. Because the work you are supposed to be leaving keeps showing up, and every time you take it, the decision is correct. Real revenue, real client need, real competence. The trap is not one bad decision.     The Correction Worked in the Room. It Never Left the Room.

    A junior engineer did everything right on paper. Then he got put in a lead role before anyone had pressure tested him, and a values gap surfaced that no interview could have caught. It is often better read as information about the candidate.     A non-compete signed in good faith does not care about good faith when conditions change. Engineers know this. They build redundant pumps before commissioning starts because hindsight is expensive and foresight is cheap.
