    Episode 9: The Celebrity Memoir + Review of I'm Glad My Mom Died

    Celebrity memoirs always sell. Why? Because they always give the illusion that you are learning more about the person you are reading about. They are capitalizing off of your interest in their lives, their careers, and their stories that have yet to be told. Most of the time, they seem to disappoint and not have the longevity we want them to have. In today's episode, I review Jennette McCurdy's memoir to see if it breaks the mold of a typical celebrity memoir while also talking about the affects social media have on the way we consume content and form parasocial relationships.     We all know what they say: "The book is better than the movie!". The adaptation is usually always set up for failure, and anticipation is high while expectations are low. In today's episode, I wanted to do a deep dive on adaptations. What makes a good one? What makes a bad one? How can we avoid disappointment?     This is either my worst or best episode yet, you decide! I review Heartstopper and share my argument that I should've shared in 4th grade about why I think graphic novels should be considered valid books that count toward your reading requirement.     I don't know about you, but I am so sick and tired of someone telling me that I am a project in need of constant repair and that they have all the answers to how to turn my life around. Let me guess: it involves getting up at the crack of dawn, eating kale, and running my own multi-million dollar online business. Like...did I ask? Not only is this blanket advice incredibly unrealistic for most people, but it actually capitalizes off their shame and makes them resent progress. This is the exact ploy of most self help books out there, but did I finally find one that shattered my expectations? Tune into this episode where I review Atomic Habits by James Clear, and rant about all the things I mention above!

    Episode 5: The Taylor Jenkins Reid Universe + Review of Daisy Jones & The Six

    Unless you've been living under a rock, you would know that Taylor Jenkins Reid has written some of the best books in modern times. From The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo to Carrie Soto is back, she has created a universe where all these characters collide and their stories intersect and you can't help but crave more of her stories. My first book of 2023 is Daisy Jones & The Six: a story of how a seventies rock band rose to the top and all the magic they created to get there. It also happens to have a mini-series adaptation coming out in March! Tune in to hear my thoughts on it as well as a full review and deep dive into the book and all the lessons you can learn from it.     Episode 4: Whodunnit? Review of "The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle"

    Everyone loves a good murder mystery. What's not to love? From Sherlock Holmes to Nancy Drew, these often formulaic stories hook you in to solve the murder yourself. There is a massive jigsaw puzzle that you need to put together in order to get the big picture, sometimes to save the day, sometimes to escape, and other times just for the sheer satisfaction of doing so, and even then, they often surprise you. Authors have started to twist this classic and effective formula into something unconventional and innovative, and the perfect example of this is "The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle" by Stuart Turton.
