    Storyteller Series Kick-Off! Amanda Konnik on the Nature Gap, Fear & Mixed Weight Relationships

    J&L are super stoked to share the newest evolution of the ROP Pod with you all, our Storyteller Series! This series involves interviews with amazing people in our communities and beyond, who embody and live life as a Rebel on Purpose. The interviews are real conversations about triumph and tribulation, filled with inspiring stories of creativity, expression, challenge, healing, transformation and wholeness. Our first interview in this series is kicked off by an amazing woman, Amanda Konnik. Amanda is the voice and content creator behind Travel Black Alberta, where she focuses on challenging stereotypes by platforming plus sized, black and middle aged women in outdoor adventures. In the past year, Amanda's been using her long time love of nature to solo hike and camp as a means to navigate personal transformations grief, and burnout. She also holds several certifications in herbalism and reiki as well as being a womb witch and Hoodoo practitioner. This interview is epic and dives right in to some very real topics that are ever present for middle aged women today. The discussion opens with an unpacking of the realities of living in a mixed weight relationship, particularly when the mix of weight is heavier on the side of the woman. Social media vitriol and boundaries are at the forefront.  Amanda shares how she grew into comfort and safety with hiking alone as a black woman in Alberta, how solitude in nature supported her moving through the grief of losing her father, and how self-acceptance, empowerment and whole health are natural results of connecting with Mother Nature on the regular.     Join J&L for yet another Minsode Word Riff! This week, out of the word box fell the concept of being a VISIONARY. Tune in to hear Jamie share her secret desire for her legacy alongside how Lindsay ponders whether being a visionary is a quality that is innate or one that must be build inside of us.     Minisode: Word Riff, and the Word is...LOYALTY!

    Jamie and Lindsay had such fun last time they got down with a Word Riff, so they decided to do it again this week! The word they drew from the sacred word box is loyalty. What is it, how does it show up (or not) in modern relationships/family, and how does it resonate for them, particularly as women? This conversation is interesting because it literally unfolds in real time between J&L as they reflect on whether loyalty lives in their own relationships and communities and how it can often get falsely attributed or cause harm when it is obliged or accompanied by entitlement and judgment. On the flip side, they also ponder the tie of loyalty to devotion and how special it can be to feel held in relationship by a sense of healthy loyalty. They provide personal examples to showcase different aspects of loyal/disloyal expressions: This illuminates how language is just so subjective and how much words do matter! Enjoy!

    Join L&J in their first broadcast using a new platform...Podcastle! They are on a steep learning curve at the moment but managed to get this episode up without too many issues, HA! They hope this upgrade improves your listening pleasure and please bare with them with editing etc. as they learn and grow! That's what it's all about and they sure do appreciate you all so much! In this episode, J&L pull a word from their brainstormed 'word box', and the word that got picked is...tension. Such a powerful word to dive into, and Jamie starts things off with a bang sharing a potent personal story that really showcases the power and potential of holding tension in spaces, relationships and most of all, with(in) ourselves. It's a short but mighty episode, and it's packed with support for how one might grow oneself into a greater ability to withstand tension as a means to greater peace, love, connection and presence. Who doesn't want more of these things in their life?

    On Resentment, Expectations & Tending to Relationships

    After a wee break, J&L are back in their podcast seats and having a deep and intimate conversation on the topic of resentment. Someone once said that 'expectations are premeditated resentments.' Join J&L to unpack what this means and to examine some ways we might shift towards a different outcome occurring in our lives. This topic is vast and exploratory and here is an overview of what's covered: -What does resentment actually mean?     'Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!' Nah, it's not that Simple

    In this episode, J&L explore the relationship between two heavy hitter emotions: joy and happiness. How do these two experiences function in relationship, and can one perhaps be a portal for the other to occur? Whose business is our happiness and joy, and who is responsible for these experiences in our partnerships?  Happiness is often outlined as the ultimate goal in a partnership and this episode examines how that might be a simplified expectation that can often lead to disappointment and distance in relationships.  An experience that is worth the pursuit, J&L discuss how living a joyful life is actually a SKILL, and how joy is an independent experience filled with paradox. They explore how happiness may certainly be an activator for joy’s emergence, but that ultimately, joy is a path guided by the soul that supports wholeness, purpose and love.

    Join J&L for this mini-chat that delves into the complex relationship many of us have with the often dreaded social phenomenon…small talk.  While initially J&L approach the topic with loathing, as the conversation unfolds, it becomes apparent that perhaps there are some benefits to small talk that can support a deeper relationship and more meaningful potentials for connection. Many questions are explored, including: ~Does the barrier that small talk reveals present an opportunity to get more creative with asking questions and developing our listening skills? ~How do introverts struggle with small talk and when is avoiding small talk simply a learned pattern that keeps introverts hidden and quiet? ~The social pressure of small talk is challenging for J&L as recovering 'nice girls', so how do we direct the conversation so it doesn't default to simply exchanging 'niceties?' Ultimately, J&L explore the opportunity we may have to become culture changers by way of transforming how we approach small talk: Instead of hating and avoiding it, perhaps we engage with it in a new way?
