Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Jem’Hadar

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 26: The Jem’Hadar. Holy cow we have arrived at the season finale already! Have we really done 46 episodes of this podcast and 45 episodes of this show!? Yes, yes we have. And this episode, while maybe not a classic in every way, introduces us to a new villain and a whole new world (quadrant?) that is very scary.

    The Jem’Hadar

In The Jem’Hadar, Sisko, Jake, Nog and Quark go on a camping trip in the Gamma Quadrant. And it pretty much goes how you might expect…Sisko is cooking jambalaya, Jake and Nog are having fun and Quark is complaining endlessly. Check. But everything goes south we are introduced to our first Vorta and our first Jem’Hadar. The scary Jem’Hadar are not amused by the alpha quadrant folks invading their territory and they’re here to make that point very strongly. Uh oh.

    Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Tribunal

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 25: Tribunal. Miles is in trouble again when the Cardassians arrest him and put him on trial! Poor Miles, it’s as if suffering is his lot in life. Join us as we discuss one of the darkest episodes so far…and by dark, we mean turn on some lights people! Even finding a usable image of this episode was tough because the Cardassians do not like lights. Regardless of the lack of illumination, we get some great guest stars in Miles’ public defendant Kovat, played by Fritz Weaver and Makbar the judge played by Caroline Lagerfelt.

    Cardassian Tribunals are fun!

Miles is trying to take a vacation (that’s his first mistake) when the Cardassians intercept his ship and arrest him. When the crew finds out, they fly into action to figure out what Miles could be charged with. But they’re racing against the clock as his execution date is already set. In this episode we have some severe hair, Cardassian reality television, an uncomfortable make-out scene and a killer mustache. I mean come on…how can you not listen?

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Collaborator

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 24: The Collaborator. Vedek Winn is back! Hooray! In this episode, we are preparing for “the choosing” of the next Kai. Our favorite villain Evil Vedek Winn is on the station to poke around for some info and drop some pretty harsh accusations on Kira’s boyfriend, Vedek Bareil.

    Who is The Collaborator?

    The migraine trigger!

Kira and Bareil are hot and heavy now – Kira’s got her sexy PJs, Bareil’s walking around in his undies…it’s all very cozy. But…uh oh…here comes Evil Winn to stir up trouble. She accuses Bareil of being a collaborator and Kira is on the hunt for the truth. The trouble is, Bareil isn’t being much help and he keeps opening the migraine trigger box and getting cryptic messages. Is he really a collaborator or he is covering for someone else? It’s all very sneaky sneaky….but in the end, we do have a new Kai. Who will it be?

    Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Crossover

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 23: Crossover. In this episode we go where we haven’t gone since the 60s: the mirror universe! That’s right! Up is down, right is left, Spock has a goatee, Kira is running the station while clad in black leather and Sisko appears to be her personal pirate. Yikes!

    Crossover

Kira and Bashir are on a mission to New Bajor (where did this colony come from?) when a wormhole snafu lands them in a universe they don’t recognize. In this universe Kira wears leather and runs the station with a velvet glove over an iron fist. Garak is her second in command and is always trying to find a way to off her. Odo wants everyone to be quiet and do what he says (that’s the same). Quark is…a…good…person? What is happening? As Mirror Kira falls in love with her Alpha Quadrant doppelganger, our original Kira and Bashir fight to get back to the universe they know and love.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Wire

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 22: The Wire. No guest stars on the podcast this week, just the usual folks. We do a deep dive into the episode The Wire where we find Garak has been living with an implant in his skull and it is now causing him severe distress. We learn a lot about Garak and Cardassians here…or do we? We certainly hear a number of stories and maybe one of them is true.

    The Wire

When Bashir discovers the implanted device (the wire?) in Garak’s head, he does everything to try and help him. Garak is trying to keep secrets and ends up telling Bashir at least 3 different versions of the same story which is confusing. Bashir doesn’t care, he just wants to help his patient (and his maybe friend?) so he takes a risk by tracking down the head of the Obsidian Order (who sound like some very scary people). Will he find help in time?

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Maquis, Part 2

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 21: The Maquis, Part 2. Last week’s special guest star, Attiba Royster, joins us again to discuss the second part of this two-parter. Attiba is an artist and big Deep Space Nine fan and he’s here to over-analyze Sisko, Cal, Herman Munster and Ugly Betty’s Dad. In this episode, we see a reflection of the Sisko/Cal friendship as Sisko tries to keep the friendship together while Cal pulls farther and farther away.

    The Maquis

Odo has found a connection between Quark and Sakonna (remember her from last week?) which helps the team surmise the next move of the Maquis. But first, they must rescue Gul Dukat, which is awfully easy. During the rescue attempt Dukat punches Sakonna in the face AGAIN (she must really dislike that guy). Next they aim to foil the Maquis attack plan on a nearby Cardassian colony. All the while this is going on, Sisko tries to get Cal back into his Starfleet uniform. Well…getting Cal into his Starfleet uniform works about as well as getting Sisko out of his Starfleet uniform in Paradise. In other words, not so much.

    Attiba Royster

You can learn more about our friend and podcast guest Attiba on his bio page. And if you want to get in touch with him about his art or anything else, his contact page is here. attibaroyster.com is his main website, but you can also see some of his horror-related work at horrorgasmsd.com. Laramelt ,

awesome way to revisit DS9

I can't wait for Sundays to hear Kim and James do a nice recap of each episode as if they are watching it in real time. These two bring their views and humor to make a nice package. It's fun to hear the hits and misses regarding "Women in the Future" (Kim's segment). And I like Jim's overanalysis section which often includes how characters are growing/changing and a segment on leadership. I never miss an episode. Such a wonderful way to spend the pandemic (and beyond).
