Hunting Camp Meals: Easy Make-Ahead Recipes & Food Prep Tips

#108: Hunting camp meals don't need to mean spending an hour cooking dinner after you've been hunting all day. In this solo episode of Reckoning, Brittney shares her favorite hunting camp meal ideas, make-ahead camping recipes, easy no-cook meals, breakfasts, snacks, and food prep tips to make feeding hunting camp a whole lot easier. The way we eat at hunting camp has changed over the years. When my boys were little and I sometimes stayed back at camp, I had time for big Dutch oven meals and dinners waiting when everyone got back from hunting. Now? I'm usually one of the hunters—and after being gone from before daylight until dark, the last thing I want to do is spend an hour making dinner. So we're talking about both. From Dutch oven Million Dollar Spaghetti, Blackstone picanha, and teriyaki chicken bowls to bacon-wrapped meatloaf prepped at home, chicken cordon bleu, build-your-own Italian subs, and hunting camp charcuterie, I'm sharing meal ideas for the nights you want to cook AND the nights you absolutely do not. We also get into make-ahead hunting camp breakfasts, including my tried-and-true breakfast burritos and sandwiches, apple-spice baked oatmeal, easy pack and truck snacks, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, caramel popcorn, and some of the things I've learned after years of feeding our family at hunting camp. In this episode: How I plan meals differently when I'm hunting vs. staying back at camp Easy hunting camp meals for busy hunting days Make-ahead meals you can prep before leaving home Dutch oven and Blackstone hunting camp dinner ideas No-cook meals for hot early-season hunts Hunting camp charcuterie—or adult Lunchables Make-ahead breakfast ideas for early mornings Pack and truck food for long days in the field Hunting camp snacks and treats Food prep and cooler tips that make camp easier How to intentionally use leftovers for another meal The biggest lesson? The harder I'm hunting, the less I want to cook. Whether you're planning elk camp, deer camp, a family hunting trip, or simply looking for easy camping meals you can prep ahead of time, this episode is packed with realistic ideas for eating well without making food another chore. Because some nights hunting camp means a big Dutch oven dinner around the fire—and some nights it means meat, cheese, crackers, and shooting the shit with your favorite people before crawling into bed. Both count. Be the Reckoning—in your life and in the woods. Brittany Redden on Elk Hunting, Motherhood & Writing Children's Books for Outdoor Kids

#107: Brittany Redden is an archery hunter, mom, instructional designer, and children's book author who believes some of the best lessons in life are learned outside. Based in Oklahoma, Brittany spends her free time hunting elk, deer, and turkeys, fishing at the lake, camping, and exploring the outdoors with her family. In this episode of Reckoning, we talk about her journey into hunting and archery, chasing elk, and what it looks like to continue pursuing adventure while raising a family. We also dive into motherhood and Brittany's mission to raise good, happy, healthy daughters by using the outdoors as a natural classroom—giving them space to learn, explore, get dirty, and see the word of God in action. That same mission led Brittany to become a children's book author. Through her hunting and camping-themed books, including her latest, Autumn's First Turkey, she blends adventure and education to introduce kids to hunting, nature, and the lessons that can only be learned outside. This conversation is about more than hunting. It's about motherhood, raising capable kids, continuing to chase your own adventures, and passing a love of the outdoors on to the next generation. In this episode of Reckoning, I sit down with James Stone to talk about his incredible journey from addiction and unhealthy habits to living with purpose, discipline, and intention. We also dive into: • Growing up in Texas and being introduced to the outdoors • Hunting, fitness, and fatherhood • His sobriety journey and navigating the social side of giving up alcohol • Building discipline when motivation fades • His community, The Forged Union, and helping other men become stronger in every area of life James was incredibly open throughout this conversation, and I'm so grateful he trusted us with his story.
